At the end of the month, I am going for my PSA Bloods and bizarrely I m hoping it is above the 0.1 requires required by my consultant for further treatment. My PSA reading becane detectable, at 8 months at 0.04 and at 12 monyhs it has risen to 0.07. My surgeon said he would not refer me until it reached the magical 0.2 but after some discussion, he agreed to refer me, in his words earlier, in my words, a timely fashion.
My uncology consultant told me as soon as my PSA went above 0.1 she would arrange a scan and disc uss radiotherapy and hormone treatment. Why the difference in thresholds between the ssurgeon and the oncologist,
i suppose the major question is, is it guaranteed that my psa will be above 0.1. I do hope so because if treatment is a definite I would rather start it as soon as possible.
As those that have supported meet this far in my journey know, I am in dispute with the surgeon. The lowest point being when he told me that in the oncology service, he was referring me to, some of them were useless. Is there any wonder my head is mashed. When in conversation with the pals team i was asked if I was receiving help for my mental health. I went for surgery to remove my prostate cancer, i still have Prostate Cancer and have now developed mental health issues.

Although NICE have guidelines for the treatment of prostate cancer - every NHS Trust - every surgeon and every oncologist follows their own beliefs to some extent.
Easy for me to say - the surgeon is clearly different than oncology, you will be under oncology for HT and Radiotherapy - see what your PSA is follow the oncologists advice.
and have now developed mental health issues.
