Hi all
Hubby And I take a multivitamin and a probiotic capsule each day. Have read that you should not take antioxidants while on radiotherapy so he was going to stop vitamins from tomorrow (2 weeks before treatment) but wondered if he can continue with probiotics as I thought it might be good for his gut during treatment? I know we should have asked at the planning meeting but didn't think of it unfortunately.
has anyone taken probiotics when receiving radiotherapy?
many thanks ️
Hello Dogs4me
I think this is a question for the radiology team. Personally I would be giving them a call on Tuesday and asking the question.
You could always contact our Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) and ask one of the Cancer Nurse Specialists or pose the question in "Ask a Nurse" - here's the link you need:

Hi Dogs4me during radiotherapy the idea is to minimise gas, so onions, curry, beans etc. Some hospitals suggest reducing dairy but this I think is to avoid tummy upsets. I would check with your team when you meet them. Try and get a routine that works and stay with it. Main problem is boredom!
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
I agree about the boredom. I hour before and an average 30 min delay each time. I put this to good use with the free Duolingo app.. Improved my Spanish no end ready for my holidays !
Thank you Brian
I rang the helpline (rang them once before when in a melt down and they were brilliant) and they suggested leaving it off for now and asking the radio therapist on the day. She was concerned that if the bowel was a bit sore it might increase chances of diarrhoea. She also said that the worst foodS for this are tomatoes and onions.
Hello Dogs4me
Brilliant - do let us know how he gets on - I am sure he will get it right and sail through his fractions.
Best wishes - Brian.
