An oncology appointment has appeared on LHs portal the week before his radiotherapy planning meeting. I am freaking out! Is this likely to be about the chips taken during the TURP? What can they have found that warrants a face to face appointment. And to make things worse we have to wait 2 weeks for the appointment. Feel like I cannot cope with these constant worries all the time
I know all hospitals have different ways but my husband had to go to 3 oncology appointments before RT. The first was to see the oncologist, hear all about the side effects and risks etc and then sign a consent form. The second appointment was with someone else who explained all about full bladder empty bowel, micro enemas, timings etc. The third was to have the tattoos and set up the machine etc. So, I don’t think at this stage you need to worry unduly!
my husband absolutely freaked at the thought of the enemas and initially refused to go through with the treatment because of this!!!
Take a deep breath - you are now nearing the end of the worst part of the journey!!!! Xxx
Thank you for your reply. He already has an appointment on the 20th for his planning, tattoos etc but this appointment has been slotted in in the 15th with his consultant. The histology in the chipfrom his TURP is on the portal but showing as pending until next week so no idea what it says. He already has his enemas as he was given them when he signed the paperwork so I can't think of anythiInag it can be besides something found during the TURP. I am trying so hard to stay strong for him but it just seems to be one thing after another. Reallly sorry to vent xx
Hello Dogs4me
Does LH have a named CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) or do you have a telephone number for oncology? It may just be worth a telephone call to ask why you have this additional appointment.
I did have a telephone call a couple of weeks after my TURP and it was to check all was well. The following day I had the Urology meeting where i was given the histology results from the TURP. As the Consultant said at the meeting, we've upgraded your diagnosis but I am passing you to Oncology who will kill off the cancer with the Radiotherapy.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thank you Brian
He does have a CNS but he seems so reluctant to ring her. I will try to persuade him but I know he will want to wait for the appointment. He does not have an urology appointment until October! I have been half expecting a phone call regarding the histology as they apparently leave the report as pending for 2 weeks so that the doctors can contact you before you read it but this appointment is after the report will be visible . So not sure that is working very well. He has had no contact with oncology since October so this is pit of the blues......
