LH had his TURP on Sunday and came home yesterday. Appears to be doing well so far Blush

As this was all done through urology I am not sure how oncologist or radiology will know he has had it done Thinking. Think we will need to contact them in a couple of weeks to make sure they know. For now we will enjoy the fact that this particular hurdle has passed Blush

  • Hi  , as you say another hurdle passed.  The NHS isn’t terribly joined up at times, so we always recommend that you advocate for yourself.  Sometimes, when everything works well it surprises you!  If you have a CNS contact, I would give them a ring and just let them know.  I don’t imagine RT will happen that quickly after a TURP but could be wrong.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Thank you David. I won't bore you with all the details but you are right about the NHS not being very joined up. Up until the Friday before his op on Sunday we were being told that he was not on the list when he was!

Sorry, I was not clear. I am not expecting RT to start in 2 weeks, more like 6-8 maybe, but I just thought we could check in a couple of weeks that the info had made it to the right people. Maybe we should  leave it a bit longer .......

  • Hello

Great news and I trust it went well.

I started my radiotherapy 8 weeks after the TURP although it could have been earlier as Christmas and New Year came and went!

For me as soon as the TURP had been completed at North Manchester General I received a letter from urology saying I had been passed onto oncology at Christies. Teo weeks later I had a letter with my appointment at Christies and the rest is history.

Don't forget the "chips" from the TURP will be checked to see what his Gleason Score is - this is where I got upgraded from a 7 to a 9!! LH is already a 9!!

I wish him a speedy recovery.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian. Yes all went well thank you. Yes I realise that the chips will be tested. I guess it is possible for him to go up to a 10 Grimacing.  If we hear nothing within 2 weeks I will start contacting people. Even LH is starting to realise that self advocating is necessary sometimes Blush. Thank again. Karen
