Hi, my husband has an mri scan booke for next week, letter received with instructions. He also has a ct scan booked for Wednesday next week, he hasn’t had a letter about this and wondering if any special instructions are needed. Post not very good at the moment.

he hasn’t been diagnosed yet so this is just to check stuff out after psa 15 and two hard areas found on exam.

he also is waiting for a bone scan appointment of which we have heard nothing. The consultant said we would get a follow up appointment with him in three weeks to look at results.

  • I am reading the letter that comes with my latest ct scan appt. It says to stop NSAIDS (aspirin, ibuprofen) 24 hrs before and after the scan. It also says if you're having a contrast agent, you should have had a blood test to check your kidneys are working ok within the previous 3 months. If you're taking metformin, its 6 weeks.

  • Thanks for that.

  • Both my CT scan and bone scan were by booked by someone from radiology calling me and asking if I could go in a couple of days later.

The blood test for the CT scan was taken on the machine before they injected the contrast agent.

It was all very quick and painless.

  • Hello ,

It's nearly 10 years since I had my diagnostic tests (yes, I'm still here alive and kicking and currently enjoying sunshine in the Canaries) and can't remember my pre-scan instructions. However, I think you should contact the hospital for precise instuctions to follow pre-scan to be absolutely sure of the requirements.

    All the best,

    Derek.
