Eight weeks post RARP

I'll be 9 weeks post my RARP tomorrow and to my surprise I got my histology results last week.

My staging was increased from stage 2 to stage 3 but the good news was the margins were good and no spread to the lymph nodes of seminal vesicles.

First PSA test booked for 5th March and hoping for positive outcome.

Continence pretty good but get severe pain in rectal area morning after any attempt to increase pelvic floor exercises. Going to discuss with Urology team as the pain routes me rigidly to the spot and comes in spasms over say 10 minutes.

Traces of post-catheter ecoli UTI and epididymitis receded and back on recovery track after set back in weeks 3-6 post surgery due to the infections.

Found out at 4 weeks post surgery that the anaesthetist had difficulty intubating me and had to use a camera. This has gone on my medical records and I have an airway management alert bracelet. Difficulty down to short neck, large tongue and anterior larynx..

Feels like the next 9 months covering the first 3 PSA tests is the next step on this path that started in July 2025.

  • Hi  overall with a few bumps on the way, that is very positive.  Fingers crossed that you sort out the last few issues and go back to normal life.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • I had a similar problem with my pelvic floor muscles. The fact you are continent shows they are already strong enough. I stopped doing the exercises and things improved fairly quickly. One year on I have remained fully continent without any need to restart the exercises.

Hope your recovery continues to go well.

    All the best

    Dave
