As above, Bit of a surprise but there you go.  Anyway I'm on 2 years of Prostat and 20 Fractions of VMAT radition planned for early April. Had all the tests (3a) grade and needed the flow test to go forward.  So I thought it was just going to be a formality but was'nt good enough for my Consultant. To be honest I think I messed up drinking nerarly 4 ltrs. water before my appointment which resulted in a slow extremely long flow on the test.  Far to much I believe.

So I have been prescribed Tamsulosin/Flomax which should hopefully get me through my 2nd test in 4 weeks time.

Can ask if there are other people been on this and what were experiences. I.E was the treatment succesful.

Cheers Dave

  • Hello Dave (

I wouldn't be too worried about that - it looks like you have caused your own issues by drinking too much - it's speed combined with flow you need.

I've been on Tamsulosin for about 12 months now and it not only keeps me regular I do have a good flow. (If you read my journey I needed a TURP operation as my prostate had grown out into my urethra!).

Good luck in 4 weeks time - you will be fine.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian. Yes I thought drink more would ensure a good strong flow. After drinking nearly 4 ltrs water in the hours leading up to the test I ended up waiting about an hour in the Clinic before feeling the need to pee. I did 3 ltrs at home then an hours drive and another bottle after parking the car and heading fot the clinic. Anyway I still think I need the Tamsulosin which I'll pick up from the chemist on monday.

got another test appointment 24th feb.

    cheers Dave
