Prostate And bladder cancer

Hi - has anyone here been diagnosed with prostate And bladder cancer at the same time? My husband has stage 3 bladder cancer (BCG treatments) and has now been confirmed with prostate cancer grade 2 (hormone treatment plus radiotherapy).  If so, was it difficult to juggle the different treatments at the same time?

  • Hello

I am so sorry to find you joining our group - I did a search of the group but was unable to find anyone posting with a diagnosis of both cancers - that's not to say we don't have any members who meet that criteria. By me replying your post will go back to the top of the page and I hope you do get some replies.

I note you say "grade 2" and HT/RT as a combination treatment - do you have any staging (TNM from any prostate biopsy) or a Gleason Score, together with any PSA readings - these would help us to help you with targeted advice.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Many thanks for responding Brian.  We've been told grade 2  and gleason 7 (3+4) but with a very high PSA (1st test 24.1 and 2nd test 21.7) so treatment recommended.  The hospital have put a Cambridge Prognostic score as 4. My husband had a bone scan in the nuclear medicine department yesterday so the results of that are likely to be a factor with treatment decisions I guess.

  • Hello

Thank you for the reply. On the assumption the bone scan is clear I would think Hormone Therapy/Radiotherapy would be the best way to go.

There are 2 other possible treatments, Surgery to remove and Brachytherapy but in my simple, none medical mind I would be staying away from them as they are both "invasive".

The CPG grading is 4 because of the PSA figure. The attached link may be of interest:

Please do ask any questions you have, nothing is too trivial and this is a very friendly group.

I wish you both well with the bone scan and the continuing bladder cancer treatment.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you!  It seems that staging, grading, and treatment of the two cancers are very different. Many thanks for the link.
