Hi
i had my prostate out first week of December and my catheter out Xmas Eve. It’ll be 5 weeks tomorrow since surgery. I’m interested to hear of others post-op who are still bleeding when weeing and if anyone wishes to share that they occasionally get painful burning sensations and a need to wee all the time ? I’ve had a couple of bouts of pain which is manageable with painkillers but feel with the bleeding may be symptomatic of a wider issue.
Being only 5 weeks post-op, I’m being told it’s still the body settling down.
At 5 weeks post op I had a water infection. I didn't have bleeding but I did have burning sensation when weeing and mood swings. I was told this is very common and as such I would recommend you get yourself checked. Water infections need a course of antibiotics and the improvement is almost instant. I did get a second water infection about 2 months later.
Thanks for the quick reply. Very helpful. I’ve had a round of antibiotics which as you say cleared things up quickly, but I feel it’s returned only a week after I finished the course. I’m going to get checked again. Thankyou. I hope your own recovery continues well.
Sometimes a specific infection needs a specific antibiotic.
It might be worth getting your GP to send a urine sample off for better checking than just dipping a stick in it.
It does sound as antibiotics help, so that might be indicated.

Changed, but not diminished.
I had my surgery in September and one of the things I was told to look out for was a water infection. It's definitely worth going back to your doctor, or someone from oncology if they are not settling down. It took a few weeks for me to stop needing a wee after catheter removal but I didn't have a burning pain (which says to me an infection). I wouldn't panic though as that can be sorted with antibiotics and bleeding after surgery is common but again definitely worth talking to someone about it again. Best of luck, Eddy.
I had my surgery in Aug and I got a uti which I actually diagnosed myself with strips off Amazon. I had to have 2 lots of antibiotics to get rid of it It’s common after having a catheter. The burning sensation goes but I find sometimes I get it now and then although only minor and it’s not a big deal I didn’t have any bleeding and I’m not sure this is right so I would definitely going back to your GP or ring your nurse.
