Physical changes after treatment and surgery

I had my prostatectomy one month ago and have been recovering from the surgery. I will have to say the recovery has gone well so far with little pain! I had read a lot about the treatments, surgery and side effects. However it appears my physical changes after treatment and surgery are exaggerated as compared to other results I read about. I would love to hear from other men who have gone thru this about your physical changes and how long your recovery has taken. I took medications to shrink my enlarged prostate in order to take proton therapy however it did not shrink my prostate enough to enable that. It lowered my testosterone level which in turn shrank my penis from 6 inches to 3 inches over 18 months. That was my first surprise! Then I had a prostatectomy which shortened my penis another inch!

Do get me wrong I am happy that the cancer is removed but I was surprised at how much of a physical changes I experienced. It seems that a shrinkage of 1 inch is normal but my experience was 4 inches in shrinkage! Is that unusual?  And the big question will it improve?   Any information is greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Bill123,

I was treated with HT & RT so it's not anything I have personal knowledge of to help you with, however, this reply will bounce it back to the top of the list again & hopefully someone will be along shortly with an answer.

    Best Wishes

  • I’ve had the shrinkage to nothing short of a slug for ages now after HT. it’s something to take up with your GP, but there is loads of penile advice within this chapter of the forum, so head up and do something about it. Go and forum, don’t google for heavens sake because apart from scaring yourself you’ll be sent to the penile adverts you’ll get fed up with. Stick with professional advice first.

    Good luck
