Hi guys a friend of mine is starting his journey and is on hormone injections, yesterday he told me he's had 3 small pieces of gold injected into his prostate, and will have a scan in December and start radiotherapy in February has anyone heard of treatment this way ?
Hi Mace.
I believe that those are markers to guide the radiotherapy and make sure that only the right bits get shot.
They should improve accuracy and reduce side effects.
I didn't have them because my whole prostate was shot during the process.
It is a good thing.
It sounds as if your friend is in good hands.
If I am mistaken then someone will be asking to correct me shortly.
Steve
Changed, but not diminished.
Treatment has come along way in a few years and the boundaries are always being pushed.
It seems different RT options are available depending on where you live.
I had 3 small ink marks, one left and right and one on my tummy done after my CT scan which was after my MRI scan. And I was ‘fitted’ with a Raypath Hypocath for both scans
With advances the RT treatment can be much more precise, quicker and cause less trauma locally meaning faster recovery and better results which is what I’m sure we all want.
