What's your experience of this med?

My husband was prescribed it. One tablet and 6 hours later he had collapsed with very low blood pressure. Emergency admission. Basically ditched the Tamulusin.

  • Hello Selina (

I have been on it since December 2024. No side effects of note and it's helped me with my "flow".

I am a bit of a nerd Nerd and tend to read the side effects of any medication I use - "fainting" is given as 1 in over 1000. It also warns about standing up quickly or getting out of bed quickly. There is also a warning that it can affect your blood pressure and check with your team before use.

I hope your husband has recovered and found an alternative to Tamulusin to deal with his issues.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian. He did recover after an 8 hour wait in ED. No alternative has been offered.  Will discuss at next review.

  • Selina, sorry to hear that the Tamsulosin had such an effect on your husband.

I've been on it since November last year and same as Brian, have not had any side effects (Touchwood).

It really helped me with my need to pee.  I can now hold it in again, apart from last Sunday, but I won't go into that.  I think it was 2 mugs of filter coffee that done it.

The 8 hour wait didn't sound very good.

Before I was prescribed with Tamsulosin, I was told there was an alternative if it didn't work.  Sorry I can't remember the name.

    Take care

  • Very unlucky for your hubby, I've been on it for 18 months now - no ill effects at all. I did run out (of pills !) for a couple of days.....that really showed up how effective it was !

  •   as soon as I started on the Tamsulosin I felt a difference straight away.

  • I’ve been taking this for 2 years now and, like Brian, have had no issues except for when I went onto caffeinated coffee for a week by mistake. That was an eye opener. I’m now slowly weaning myself off these by lowering the dose to every other day, then every third day until I can stop. Like all medication, there are many side effects and only a handful of people are affected by them. Hope he will found an alternative that works.

  • I find my gums bleed terribly soon after I've taken it and I have now got low red blood count not sure if it's related though

  • Oh dear that doesn't sound good.

  • I'm on blood thinners and well so it may be a combination

  • Yes my husband is too, amongst other meds!
