When should your testosterone show signs of returning.

I had my last 3 Prostrap injection in April..after almost 3 years on HT....20 Rt fractions a couple of years ago.

I agreed with my consultant that we would test for testosterone 3 montly when I have my PSA results review.

I have had 2 blood tests since my psa has held steady at 0.05....however my first testosterone reading was 1.0...which was as expected....but my reading last week was 0.75....so it's reducing and not what sure what to expect ?

TIA

  • Hello

There's no hard and fast rule but after 3 years HT it should be back to where you were in 12 - 18 months. Some of us recover much faster (me in 3 months! Innocent) and some never recover to the figure they started off with.

It is also affected by age, don't forget you are 3.5 years older now. I did read a study sometime ago which said only 43% of men on HT recover to their former level, and for most recovery is completed within 36 months.

I would have thought that after 6 months there should be some improvement - I think it's time for a chat with your Consultant or CNS.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi  , I think it is too soon to expect much of a return, my logic is as follows.  We are all different and much the same as one person can tell when they have had a glass of wine and another takes 3 glasses to notice.  The Prostrap is a slow release and is given at the same dosage to everyone.  If you can imagine after a couple of years some of the Prostrap from previous injections may still be being slow released.  From your last Prostrap in April some may even now remain (albeit small amounts), so I am not surprised in the slightest.  Definitely talk to your team if the next result shows no improvement but don’t give up hope.

    Best wishes, David
