Hello everyone.
I do hope everyone is doing as okay as they can be on here.
Just a question please ?
My hubby has been having radiotherapy and HT for stage T3a. He has finished the radiotherapy now & has roughly another 2 months of HT (he is on 6 mths HT).
The question I have is - what happens next ?
Does he see the oncologist for a review or will he just have a scan or PSA test & if so when is this likely to happen ? He said he had a scan on his penultimate radiotherapy session.
Just wondering what is in store next ?
Thank you
Hello Redrose25
Radiotherapy done, although it keeps working for another 12 months inside his body!!
Next will be a PSA test in 2/3 months time and if all is well he should move to 6 monthly PSA tests for say 3 years and if all is well then annual PSA tests.
That's how it's done where I live - all NHS trusts are different.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi
I asked the question on Friday as I am 30% through my RT and on hormone and Arbiraterone for 2 years. Oncologist explained that as with many cancers, time will tell. Only when the drugs stop will the true effect be seen. I will go onto 3 monthly appointments for bloods and updates. But this is and isn't an exact science. As my PSA has dropped significantly with the drugs thus far (49 to 0.06) he said that I am where he wants me to be.
This is my path to date, finished RT 4th Feb phone appointment was booked with Oncologist mid March PSA test before that came in at 0.22. Now passed over to Urology Nurse support team got a second test at 3 months just for peace of mind down to 0.09! Just had next one yesterday. Fatigue and toilet issues about settled but still up rather to much nightly having treatment for Radiation cystitis HT just ending so hopefully effects of this will be gone soon muscle pain in particular have pump and pills to help relieve thing for my ED!
Has he had a end of treatment assessment with a member of the team with a PSA test done prior the appointment to discuss what happens next, mine was roughly 2 weeks after finishing my radiotherapy sessions . Thankfully my results where good, PSA down from 21 to 0.01 and no more HT injections needed just the routine PSA every 6 months for next 5 years. Not sorry the HT injections have stopped, by far the worst part of the treatment. Good luck to him
Same here , finished mine 2nd of May this year, most of side effects are better, still getting odd hot flushes but still no energy and as you say some nights needing to get up once then some nights 3 times
It is by no means certain on the process that your hubby's trust adopt as all trusts are different as are all patients.
However you most welcome to read of my PC journey to this point today where I am just over twelve months from ending my radiotherapy. My profile can be found by clicking on my name or avatar top left of this message, whilst you are welcome to read the whole saga the most relevant part to your question begins late around July 2024.
I hope that gives you and yours yet another angle on the future and I hope all works out well for you both.
Rod
