10 months after the start of HT, things feel almost normal apart from 1 strange side effect (which others my be envious of)

So started my 6 months of HT in November 24, with second jab in February. RT went well in March.

Was told by the medical team that I should start getting back to normal about 9 months after treatment started. So here I am in month 10:

  • hot flushes have stopped
  • libido feels well on the road to recovery
  • energy levels feel like they are improving

The only remaining side effect is a bit of a strange one, I keep waking up in the middle of the night with an erection (never have done previously). I appreciate that this is a 'problem' that many might like to have, but does anyone know if this is common (and is it likely to go away)?

  • Hello

"Morning Wood" or "Morning Glory" is quite common in a healthy male and it's nothing to worry about. Your testosterone is returning and it's letting you know.

I had 3 years on Hormone Therapy and to be honest my sex drive went on holiday. I came off HT in December 2024 and I woke up one morning in February with an erection - happy days! Joy!!

(A healthy man can have up to 5 erections per night during REM sleep!!).

Sorry to say, you are just a normal bloke!!

    Best wishes - Brian.

    1. Chance would be a fine thing I've not had an erection for about 2 years sadly
  • It's not morning glory, it's 2am and 4am glory.

  • Hello

Don’t shoot the messenger-most blokes on here would be over the moon to be where you are now!!

Enjoy it whilst you can!! Innocent.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • It's normally associated with deep sleep, "REM"; cycles, which as the name suggests are regular occurrences during the night, usually we are not aware we wake up every 3 hours or so, but your good fortune means you are, it should, as your hormones return to normal return to something similar to pre PCa days.
