Abiraterone and the weekly dose of Alendronic acid

Good evening - I have been taking Abiraterone for 8 weeks now and just take a Vitamin D supplement, thus not the Alendronic Acid. I take the Abiraterone as soon as I wake up and then a steroid with my breakfast an hour later(easy to manage). I have just read the NHS guidance for Alendronic acid and I see your quandary. Take on an empty stomach, 30 minutes prior to food and before you take other medicine that you swallow! Also states best before breakfast. 

These are guidelines and it may be better to take the A Acid prior to another meal, but as it is always stated on here, this is not medical advice. Perhaps a call into the Oncology department Nurse for assurance?

I have some "huge" sweats and glows with the Abiraterone, I do think it is that as I am also on a 6 monthly hormone injection. How is your husband managing?

I also hope that you are managing, I start my RT this week and I think my wife is equally as nervous as I am... this journey is not easy.

Thank you for that, so far so good with the Abiraterone although I have pointed out that the steroid is increasing his appetite and he will need to be mindful of that.  
He also had the HT implant about 4 weeks ago. 
Sweats are intermittent, he also is getting some aches but does run several times a week so unsure if connected or part of aging process. 
On the plus side he says the waterworks are vastly improved. 
Fingers crossed this treatment works without causing too many other problems for you and everyone else dealing with this

i took both drugs for well over a year and on Fridays ( my preferred day for Alendronic Acid) I took the Alendronic half an hour before the Aberiterone then ate a breakfast and took the steroids just like your OH.

That worked for me but ask your cancer team if that’s right for him.

Having a perfect treatment plan is the aim but it’s always confused by something that doesn’t fit in so well.

A clinician or hospital pharmacists advice is best if and when you’re next in ear-shot of them.

Another question to write down and ask later, for a formal answer later.
