Panicking for no reason?

Hi, I'm Chris. 66, still working, couch potato but no other vices - OK 'smooth jazz'.

After counting 17 toilet trips in 24 hours, I sought help.  I have a PSA of 7.2, MRI pirads 4 score (feels like the wrong word) and just had a 16-sample biopsy today.  Ouch!

My consultant's letter in MyMFT shows me as having a prostate volume of 116 (cc I assume). My lesion is 14 mm, sounds large to me.  It's left posterior and PZ, which I assume is 'peripheral zone'.

Oh yes, I just went on YouTube and it sounds like PZ lesions are higher grade than TZ lesions.

With up to 4 weeks to wait for results, the size and position of my lesion have knocked me for 6.  Am I just being a drama queen?

  • it is really hard waiting for all the results and the explanations and for a plan to be put in place isn't it? I have asked so many questions of the lovely people on this forum. I too read about the difference between the TZ and PZ tumours but hubby's Gleason score came back as a 9 despite being in the TZ so not sure how reliable that info is tbh. Hubby had a PSA of 57 so a lot higher than yours as well.

Currently sitting in a Costa at the hospital while he has a PSMA PET scan and hoping that this will be the last test that is needed to get a fully staged diagnosis. Everyone says that the testing stage is the worse so really hoping that is true as it is very wearing. Good luck to you and zI hope that you soon have a full diagnosis and treatment plan Blush

  • That's such a lovely reply. Suddenly almost everything else pales into significance. Wishing you and your husband peace of mind and strength.

  • Hi OM

On the face of it not too bad, low PSA, yes tumour at 14mm largish, similar to mine just before treatment started.

Hopefully the Gleeson will come back lowish which will help.

I'm assuming still contained in the gland, did they mention that.

If contained then potentially curable and easy to treat

    All the best

    Steve

  • Steve, thanks for replying.  I was told shortly after the MRI that the tumour is contained in the gland.  I took that as a positive, and I still do.

  • Yup, best bit of news really coupled with the low PSa.

Now a low Gleeson 6 or 7 just to finish it off nicely.

    Good luck

  • Hi

yours sounds similar to mine. PSA 6.1, 17mm lesion. Biopsy came back 5+4 which was a real shocker, but I was luckily still on the curable pathway. All options open. I went with surgery, but the main point is, the whole thing is a massive shock to the system at first and the waiting is awful, so a healthy dose of panic is very normal. However, once you have your results and can have directed discussions and can formulate a battle plan, the panic settles.

Wishing you all the best and hope the results come back as good as they possibly can!

  • Rob, love that reply. This is all new so questions about 'what is normal' are a big part of my day. Each new post I see equips me better to get my head around possible next steps. Thank you (all).
