Prostate biopsy suspicious but does not match the mri scan

My husband received a letter today that said that the ‘results from your prostate biopsy are suspicious, but do not match the mri scan of your prostate’  he is booked in for another biopsy, this time under general anaesthetic, but this is not until next month and then there is a 5 week wait for results.  So what started in April will be going into September.

We can’t seem to be able to speak to anyone in urology, so before I start googling I hoped someone would be able to interpret.  I assume cancerous cells have been seen in the samples or he wouldn’t be called back.

thank you Two hearts

  • Hello

He's got an elevated PSA of 14 - it sounds like they didn't obtain enough samples from the prostate on the original biopsy to give a conclusive result. To get a decent result they normally take between 10 and 12 samples. I assume "suspicious" = we have some samples showing cancer but not enough.

Prostate Cancer is slow growing so I wouldn't worry - Dr Google is the last place you want to go to for information - use trusted UK sources, Prostate Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK or Macmillan.

I hope this helps - if I can do anything else for you please do give me a shout.

    Best wishes - Brian.

does seem a bit puzzling, biopsy results suspicious but don't

     match the Mri?

Anyway psa not too high, what did the Mri actually show?

Possibly  the biopsy didn't show any cancer so they are re checking it.

I think I would ask them  if suspicious can u give me a Gleeson score ( shows aggressiveness and if cancer positive)
