RT now being brought forward

Hi, my dad was diagnosed with PC cancer in may, he started HT straight away with an indication of RT starting 6 months later. He met with the oncologist yesterday and was told he has an aggressive form of cancer to one of the lymph nodes, Gleason 9 and the other LN is Gleason 3.7 so they would like to bring the RT forward to August. Has this been experienced by anyone else? He asked what his prognosis would be and was told it is a 64 million dollar question and that they wouldn’t be able to tell for 5 years… seems odd to me but not sure if dad was overwhelmed or not feeding back.

  • Hello

I didn't get my Radiotherapy brought forward but I am a Gleason 9 and had Radiotherapy to the Pelvic Lymph Nodes in January 2023 - I have no intention of being in God's Waiting Room and at 69 I feel great - my Prostate Cancer journey isn't over and I am still very treatable.

I am not a great believer in asking for a prognosis and I am sure we have many Community members on here who have outlived their's!! Sweat smile.

To me Dad's got a great team behind him who are looking after him - with a positive attitude he will do well.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello - I tend to agree with Millibob, asking for a prognosis probably won’t be vastly useful. I have a friend who asked and was told he had two to four years, and that was eleven years back and he is still going strong, so my thoughts are that I’m not going to be asking.

Best wishes to you and your Dad, as Millibob says, he has a great team looking after him, and he clearly has a supportive family. All will be good.

    Ginger.
