I just had the result from my latest blood test before my next months supply of Abiraterone
I noticed that on the Full Blood Count my Haemoglobin was 120 g/L. A normal reading would be between 130-180.
This is obviously a contributing factor to the fatigue I feel all the time.
I already take a multi vitamin and an additional iron supplement every day and eat a healthy diet as I've been diabetic for 30+ years, but wondered if anyone could advise on anything I can do to boost the red blood count.
The fatigue is worse this time on Aberaterone and I have a consultant phone call in July where they want to discuss putting me back on a reduced dose of Olaparib as well and one of the side effects of that is.....fatigue – Yay!
My PSA is still below 0.03 but the side effects are killing me.
Any advice would be appreciated
Hi Slartibartfast , it’s ages since we last spoke and sorry to hear your fatigue is bad. I have been on Zoladex for 8 years and fatigue is increasing, but sadly so is my age! I am not sure what a healthy 76 year old should feel like anyway. I recently had SABR (3 doses of high level targeted RT) and that hit me very hard, but with exercise and time I am gradually recovering. Some days I feel down and others almost normal, but I do think exercise and positivity are two very useful tools. Sorry I can’t help. David
Best wishes, David

Hi David and Slartibartfast,
David, how are you? I think you know that Jacob is exactly your age and the fatigue is a burden. As you said exercise and positive attitude are the main tools. We never stay awake now after 10pm.
Best wishes from Jacob

Hi Dafna, good to hear from you. Overall I am doing remarkably well, but the SABR treatment did hit me hard about 4 weeks after I finished in Feb. I am gradually recovering but each hit seems harder to climb back up, but that is probably also age related. I had my latest PSA yesterday and I thought it was brilliant, but the CNS wasn’t happy and has referred back to my oncologist to see if a scan is needed. We currently have a number of holidays booked which is a great distraction. Is Jacob still doing his daily swimming? Best wishes to you both. Stay positive. David
Best wishes, David

Hi David,
Yes Jacob still swimming but instead of 80 lengths daily he is doing now 60 daily. Honestly, I can hardly swim 2 lengths. Saying that come 1pm in the afternoon and he is so very tired and irritable. After a nap he feels better but the only hours which I can see old Jacob the way he was before the HT is in the morning.
Well, lets look at the half full!
Have a lovely holiday!
Lots of love

MR BW was on Abiraterone and his bloods did bounce about abit, as a rule worrying “outs’ would be back in by the next test. Trying to boost red blood cells - lots of dark green leafy veg . High dose of vitamin C which is an all round healer but essential for iron absorption. Cut out/ down, tea and coffee or go decaffeinated as that can hinder iron absorption too.
hope that helps
Add on * in your general diet ramp up your protein intake. Chicken (red meat, but lean and not much - now and again ) lots of fish . Lentils / pulses and other beans
