Focal HIFU

Hi all

After 5 years of active surveillance my PSA is gradually rising from 6.78 to now 16.

I have had 2 biopsies, 1 in 2020 picked up 1 area of 3+4, in 2024 only 3+3 was picked up.

I have had 3 MRI's with no change in the 5 years, 69cc Prostate gland.

I am reluctant to choose surgery and Radiation because of the possible side effects, especially Urinary.

Brachytherapy seems to be ruled out, because of the gland size 69cc (max of 60cc) and flow rate is not quite powerful enough.

I had a meeting with the doctor today and he has suggested that I consider Focal HIFU as this has less chance of side effects and is a relatively easy procedure. They are just starting this at this Hospital but it would be overseen by the top man in the country.

Has anyone had any experience with this procedure, I believe a Catheter is fitted for a week, and then it is just monitored afterwards. It also will not interfere with any follow up procedures, if there is any reoccurrence.

Regards

  • Hi kezzer

I have read good things about Hi Fu but don't think that many long term stats regards success rates

It's good though that if returns then other treatments still available.

    Best wishes
