Almost 6 months after RT

Hello All,

I had RT in January for a small PC tumour.

I still have some troubles with poo.

Occassionally blood or mucous makes and appearance.....should I still have this after almost 6 months?

Several times per week, I need to go with urgency and there is an explosion of poo.....is this to be expected after so long since treatment.

The main concern if a great deal of discomfort when I poo which seems to centre where my prostate is/was.....again I don't know if I am setting my expectations too high or is this unusual?

Best,

Ian

  • Hi Ian ( ), sorry you have joined our club, but welcome.  Firstly, we are all different and how we react to treatments is also unique to each of us.  Having said that, RT continues to work for months after delivery (can be over a year), so no major worry about changes for some considerably time, but I would always check anything with my team (generally the PCN specialist).  Blood after RT is usually an aggravated diverticula or simply piles, but can be damage caused by the RT (radiation proctitis).  Generally, none of these are major concerns but probably need checking out with a camera and whenever pain is involved - get it checked out.  David

  • Hello

I am so sorry to read your post - 6 months after RT is a short time as it does go on working for up to 18 months after your last fraction - however I would be having a word with your team - radiologists and GP - let them know of the changes and ask if there's anything they can do for you.

    Best wishes - Brian.
