PSA levels

Hi all, thought I might seek your collective wise counsel for something that is confusing me.

My query is around where my PSA should be ATM. I am now 10 months post diagnosis, almost 6 months post RT, just had my 4th hormone injection - and my PSA has just dipped below 1.0 for the first time (0.96). When I look at others profiles, most seem to come down a lot quicker. I have an appt with oncologist next month and I will obviously discuss with her then but just wondered what you all thought. I am T3b N1M0  Gleason 10.

I swore I was not going to get myself in a tizz over the PSA numbers game but here I am.

regards

  • Good Morning

I think you are doing fine - I know some folk get their PSA down to almost undetectable but you are a T3bN1N0 Gleason 10 so you have an aggressive cancer.

    For a comparison i am a T3aNXN0 Gleason 9 - I set off with a PSA of 182 and 10 months after diagnosis my PSA was 1.74.

The important PSA reading is your nadir or lowest reading which can be expected 18 months after you completed Radiotherapy and this will be used as a baseline for all future readings. Don't forget Radiotherapy and Hormone Therapy are still working on the cancer cells, and we all react differently to our treatments.

You are doing great - carry on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Indykid

    I think that's fine.

My PSA has taken 8 years to go from 1.33 to  .26 today, that's after Radiotherapy.

    So.......relax

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Thanks Brian. My initial PSA on diagnosis was 15 so I was hoping for better by now but just when I think I understand it all ... along comes something to niggle at me. I will take the drop as a big positive instead of allowing the gremlins in.

  • Thanks for your reply Steve.

I kinda want to have easy answers to the questions my family in particular ask, but I realise that's not going to be something I can do every time, but your response has helped.

    best wishes to you too

  • It all looks ok for you but if u have any more specific questions please ask.
