Hi all.  Had my meeting with oncologist   Was a rapid affair.  He’s happy my cancer is contained.   Not spread and in early stages.   He actually said “ looked at bone scan and nothing to worry about “ which is what I have would have liked to hear weeks ago    He’s gone through my options.   Surgery or radio and  hormone and I need to choose in the next week or so. Looks like I’m t2n0m0     I think the meeting took about 10 mins.   He said I would have been about 2 years away from symptoms     As isn’t an option as my psa is 23 but he wasn’t too worried about that in the long term.     Need to weigh up options over the weekend.    Cheers.  Simon

  • Hello Simon (

Pen and paper and it's a list of how each treatment would affect both you and your partner.  The links to our guide to surgery and Hormone Therapy / Radiotherapy are in my 1st post on this thread:

     Confused surgery or harmone etc

If you have any question however trivial do ask them - it's a big decision you are making.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Cheers Brian.   Yeah.  I need to have a think about it all    I’m quite happy that the meeting was brief as obviously things are treatable ( as we thought anyway)     He was in no rush for me to make a decision as he said it’s really slow growing.   I’m going to think about it over weekend and choose Monday.      Come on the latics!!!    Any news from your scans etc

  • Hello Simon

It is a big decision and one you can't go back on - we are all different and it's a very personal choice.Take your time and weigh up how it will affect not only you but your partner.

Scan on Bank Holiday Monday for me at our local diagnostic centre. No news yet but I am not too hopeful!!

Tickets for Wembley secured and looking forward to the day. It should be a great game as Oldham and Southend are "two proper football clubs".

    Kind regards - Brian.

  • Hi Simon

Could be worth finding out a bit more detail about what the MRI says.

    I presume Gleeson low?

PSA a little bit high and needs watching.

The MRI report should tell u tumour size and not located near the gland edge although of course he has said everything ok, but always worth double checking but time on your side by the looks of it

    Best wishes

    Steve

    • Hi  - as always, my advice is to check out the various members on here by clicking on the bio icon
    • Look for those with similar PSA / staging etc (of course)
    • check out PCRI.org (sone very informative videos on there)
    • take a look at the comparison charts of treatment effectiveness.  These aren’t opinions - they are based on historical statistics.
    • There is a good one on a Canadian site - brachytherapy a royal flush (one for google)
    • note that treatment regimes today are more effective than 10-20 years ago (where most statistical evidence is coming from for today’s reports, as it takes time to check and double check)
    • good luck!       AW
  • Gleason 3+4.  Less than 10 % pattern 4

  • Thank you.   I need time to digest it all.    I’m just happy that I’m in early stages and it hasn’t spread.   I had bone scan 7 weeks ago and today was the first time I heard the phrase “ I’m not worried about your scan “.

  • Can’t think why that took 7 weeks to come back.  It was always very likely to be clear (tends to be done as a precautionary tick box exercise for intermediate stage cancers)

  • I know.  I pressed for results other week and got a nurse who said it all seemed fine.   Although I was happy with that.  I wanted a pro to tell me      I’ve off to say the bone scan had caused me more stress that any procedures.        Anyway.   Onwards and upwards

  • Brian,  did you say that 'Sarfend' are a proper club?  Just be careful they don't beat Oldham.

Take your time and weigh up how it will affect not only you but your partner.

I'd say this is the most important thing as we don't always consider our wives and partners.

Please let us know which option you choose.

    Take Care
