Hello Doreen Doreenw . I have been on this journey with my husband for 4+ years. Some days I go along fine and then for no reason I get the wobbles. We have the highs when the cancer is under control and we have a good PSA test and then the lows when we know that another round of treatment is going to be needed. I have learnt that these feelings are normal but what is more difficult is learning the coping strategies and to just accept that what will be will be and there is nothing I can do about it apart from keeping my husband as fit as possible both mentally and physically. It is also important to carry on doing what I enjoy and not feel guilty about it. We do spend a lot more time together going out for a coffee, ice cream or a meal and invariably start talking to others. We are making the most of whatever time we have left because we know that with the 'incurable' but treatable diagnosis then it is probably not going to be as long as we had originally planned. Initially fear was a major emotion, fear of losing my husband and being left alone, fear of whether I will be able to cope, fear that he will be in pain. I have learnt that we are a lot stronger than we think but if we need help we must ask as no one knows what help you need - they are not mind readers. We have reached a balance which we are both happy living with but it has involved a few home truths at times. Don't forget, you are not superwoman.
Is it just the ups and downs of being on this journey that you are having a problem with or is there something specific?
