Hi All
I have my transperineal biopsy booked for next Thursday afternoon in Stamford Lincs. I am 57, PSA 1.47 but DRE suspect so had MRI which showed suspect DRE was nothing but identified a potential pirads 4 lesion on the left side but fully contained to prostate.
I just wondered what after effects people had, are you able to sit comfortably or are you in pain for a day or two? I'm supposed to be going somewhere the Saturday afterwards so hoping I'm not in too much pain to drive.
Thanks All
Hi dedward67 , we are all different in how we respond to treatments and there are two methods of biopsy. My biopsy was very uncomfortable and I had bleeding afterwards for a few hours. The rest of the day, I was slightly like a wounded animal and didn’t want to do much. Next day, pretty much back to normal and no problem sitting. Hope this helps, David
Hello dedward67
I agree with David2017 here. Mine was over 3 years ago and the old TRUS biopsy. I had no bleeding but was a trifle sore for a few hours afterwards.
Here's our guide to The Trans-perineal Biopsy. I wish you well with it.
Best wishes - Brian.

Mine was...well uncomfortable to say the least. I think the worst part was being in stirrups. So embarrassing but it had to be done.
I could only see the top of the head of the Nurse performing the biopsies. I thought I would never see her again...
Wrong! At my next appointment she was there and asked me if I recognised her. It's a wonder she recognised me!!
I think she was a darts player, a few treble 20's, ending up with a couple of Bullseye's.
It will be fine for you. It's the waiting that gets your mind going. But once it begins, not so bad.
Be careful, driving!!!

Hi,
I was in agony after my biopsy............but the pain was not caused by the biopsy but by the removal of the dressing they had applied. Admittedly, the area to be dressed was not the easiest to do, but I think they went a bit overboard with the sticky tape. The tape was stuck to every hair on my body from my navel to my knees !!!!
The biopsy "wounds" were just a little bit tender - not even enough to call them painful.
I forgot about the sticky tape!
Oh well!!! You get a free "Brazilian". Didn't know if it was best to take the tape off carefully or rip it off. But then, it wasn't my decision, just the nurse with a wry smile on her face (only joking, it was professionally done).

Hi dedward67,
I was advised that it would be better not to drive immediately after the biopsy so arranged for a neighbour to take me in & then back home afterwards (think it's more to do with being fully in control of the pedals in case there is any pain). I was quite comfortable sitting down as a passenger so we even stopped off for lunch on the journey home.
Good nights sleep & back to driving the next day.
Best Wishes
Brian
I've just remembered my conversations "in stirrups", I was talking about different breeds of Cow, seeing I was working in an Abattoir at the time (admin job dealing with the farmers and checking the farm assurance of the Cows...no killing by me whatsoever).

Hi dedward67
I have had the misfortune of being biopsied 3 times, at 2 different hospitals, and each was different afterwards. In all cases however I was able to move around reasonably normally the day after just with some discomfort and mild pain which could be controlled with paracetamol. In my case the discomfort was mainly from having the probe inserted in my back passage rather than the biopsy itself. For my first two I had a bit of blood staining in my urine for a few days afterwards but the last time I was actually passing blood for a while. The last time they also decided to dress the area afterwards and like moonrakerz has already commented removing it was quite a painful experience!
Good luck with it. You will hopefully find its not as bad as you imagine it will be.
Cheers
Dave
Hello dedward67 . My husband has had 3 biopsies so far and apart from a little discomfort on the day he managed OK thereafter. He was not allowed to leave the hospital until he could prove that he was urinating without any problems. You might notice a little blood in the urine for up to a couple of weeks but also in the semen which can be disconcerting if you are not warned about it as it can be a rusty colour. Very rarely the procedure can result in an infection so it is important that if you feel at all unwell afterwards you should seek medical help.
