Hi. My OH has been on Decaptyl since Feb 2023.
it’s administered by our local CNS in the hospital. I have noted though that it’s being given every 6 months (26weeks) rather than 24 weeks. Does anyone have any advice or experience of this and does it make any difference?
Thank you
Hello Hanandy
Great post and we have had this question before, although the answer has been debated at great length I don't think we had a formal decision, so I will start off:
I was prescribed Decapeptyl every 6 months for 3 years. My GP surgery told me 6 months was 24 weeks on the advice that the monthly injection was stated to be every 4 weeks. Here's a link Decapeptyl for Prostate Cancer confirming the advice for the monthly dose. (The patient information leaflet only says every 6 months by the way).
I hope this helps, lets see what others say.
Best wishes - Brian

I'm on Decapeptyl (3 monthly) and if you consult the patient information it states the frequency should be 12 weeks. I organize the appointments for the injection with my GP and have been sticking to 12 weeks between injections with no issues.
Have a chat with the Hospital and see if you can clarify things. I'm on Decapeptyl for 3 years and the difference between 3 monthly/12 weeks is 2 additional injections.
Best of Luck
