Hi ,
OH radiotherapy started today every Tuesday till 7th January. Pretty non eventful other than he was bursting before they took him through . No explanation no does /donts . Haven’t a clue what to look out for
Ended up at the maggie centre and they answered the questions he wanted to ask .
on a positive note when we returned home he got a call from the oncology nurse to tell him his PSA is undetectable. All blood works are good.
Hi johnam welcome to the forum..That's great that the Maggies Centre was able to answer your queries, they are fantastic folks at these centres. I'm not entirely sure what to look out for after Radiotherapy but my fellow Champ Millibob will be along soon to help with any further information which may be helpful.
Hi
Has your hospital given your OH dietary advice ? Some don't. Poole recommended a very restricted diet, whilst on RT , and for a while afterwards. The only problems I had was when I ignored it - once!
Regards
Stuart
Hi Stuart,
what kind of diet as the hospital have not mentioned anything to him about anything . We’re finding it pretty frustrating . The maggie centre just said to make sure he has plenty good protein .
we don’t know about fluid intake either .
thank you
Liz & OH xx
Hi Liz
The diet recommended by Poole Hospital, was low fibre everything, no caffeine or alcohol, no leafy green veg or legumes, onions or garlic. Anything that is likely to irritate his bowel in other words.
I think the logic is that the RT will irritate the bowel, so the diet was a way of mitigating.
Regards
Stuart
Hello Liz & OH (johnam)
Well all is good, 1st sunbed done, low PSA (or no PSA). As you say, time for a celebration.
As he's done well for this fraction I don't think you have anything to worry about, just don't let him have anything that will cause wind!!
Best wishes - Brian.

Good morning Liz. Great news with the undetectable PSA and now the mothership is being dealt with. The radiotherapy will cause some 'bruising' or inflammation so the main thing to watch out for is the urine flow and any changes to the bowel habits. Generally keep doing what you are doing diet wise but keep an eye on the wind producers and only change things if necessary to keep the bowels regular and the right consistency. We were told no alcohol for both rounds of radiotherapy but boy did the single malt taste good at the end of it.
