Hi my name is Peter
I was having treatment for an overactive bladder with prostate blood test as part of treatment which came back at 7.7. I then had an ultrasound, GP said I had enlarged prostate but nothing of concern. Has MRI scan as part of pathway which has revealed lesions on prostate rated 4 and 5. Having a biopsy, no noted signs of other lesions throughout body. Notes 66.9% chance of prostate cancer and really worried and having bad anxiety and not sleeping, I have the constant peeing which I thought was my over active bladder no pain peeing small leaking and sometimes stop and start to finish,I've pretty much resigned myself to having prostate cancer and finding very tough to deal with like everyone with the horrible disease, any helpful advice would be much appreciated
Kind regards
Peter
It won’t matter if it’s 4 or 6 months HT prior to RT, as those cancer cells will be fast asleep. The longer you wait the weaker they get and you are very unlikely to become “castrate resistant” in such a short timescale. AW
Morning AW
Thanks for the information.
My first day on the hormone tablets today so the treatment journey begins fingers crossed the side effects aren't to bad,im very apprehensive to say the least it's the unknown I suppose.
Peter
There’s a school of thought that the lower that you can get your PSA on HT, before RT, the better. I only had two and a half months HT before brachytherapy as HT shrinks everything and, as I only had a small prostate to start with, they needed the space to insert all the radioactive seeds. It was then another month to external beam radiotherapy, so I had three and a half months before the 23 fractions of that. AW
My PSA was 7.07 when diagnosed I have a enlarged prostate and one of the leisons is 17mm so I suppose it will take a while to shrink ,hope all is going well for you
Peter
If you have an enlarged prostate, even more reason to be going for 4-6 months HT prior to RT. Looks like you have a good team in charge. AW
Yeah that makes total sense not looking forward to the RT with my really bad overactive bladder, my prostate buddy who I was hoping to get some tips about trying not to wee during RT turned out he had the beam radiation therapy with a empty bladder so just my luck
Peter
Hello Peter (Psb2024)
It all depends where you have your Radiotherapy, most are empty bowel, full bladder. I was a "lucky boy" as I was at The Christie in Oldham - empty bowel, empty bladder.
Before every fraction the radiologist would say "have you been?".
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello Peter (Psb2024)
I don't see any harm in it - the NHS is always telling you to pick and chose where you have your treatment. The hard part may be finding a Radiology unit working the "empty bladder" system.
Best wishes - Brian.
