I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014. Since then I have had radiotherapy and was on a stampede drug trial. The trial ended 2 years ago and I was then put on chemo but that had to be stopped after three weeks as it was having a bad effect on my skin. I was fortunate enough to move on to lu-177 PSMA treatment but again that have to be stopped after four treatments as it was having an adverse effect on my kidneys. Now today I've found out that my PSA has risen from three to nine in just one month and, frankly, I'm scared. On the one hand it looks so the Cancer has come back with avengeance but my options for treatment seem to be limited. I really don't know what to do.
2nd generation hormone therapies are the Abiaterone, Enzalutamide, Apalutamide and Darolutamide. I would encourage you to watch the video I gave you a link to where it discusses current available treatments and explains when they should be used.
So he's having his ORIGINAL biopsy retested? Mine was done in 2014. Surely they won't still retain the biopsy sample, will they?
My husband's was 2020 but he also had a biopsy on lymph mets in 2022 which could have been used. Basically any biopsy material is suitable from anywhere in the body which confirmed prostate cancer can be suitable. I don't know how long different countries keep the biopsy samples for.
My only biopsy was done in 2014 at the QE Hospital in Birmingham when I was still living in the UK
There is a tablet called Relugolix which has recently been approved for some men which may be suitable instead of the Zoladex. Just throwing ideas out there.
In general, a period of 10-20 years is a lower-limit guideline for retention. Major institutions prefer to store their slides and tissue blocks for 10 years, whereas cancer referral centers preserve them for 25 years [1].
Is that likely to have an effect on my PSA levels?
