Dear all , im terrible with trying to get through on this site to check if my messages get on here, as I can’t have any brachytherapy treatment now and only HT injections for the foreseeable, how long can one last with just ht , one very worried guy

  • Hello

Am I correct - in a "previous life" were you "Jonnymac22"?  Just a guess but your issues sound very familiar. If I am correct you couldn't have Brachytherapy because of your Crohn's?

So HT can keep the nasty Prostate Cancer in check for as long as it suppresses your testosterone - at some point it's possible the cancer cells can get used to the HT treatment and your PSA would rise. We are all different and for some guys the HT last lifelong. When it stops working there are other tools in the toolbox.

Can you remind us of your original diagnosis please - original PSA TNM staging and Gleason score please?

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi  , we have spoken before under your alias.  I have been on HT for 7 years and recently added Enzalutamide into the equation. Hopefully a load of other treatments available later down the line.  We are all different but HT can work for years and years.  Try and stay positive. Best wishes, David

  • Yes that’s me Brian , I’m not that great on here lol

  • Yes Jonnymac22 alias Wednesday 22 .at least I’m on , was scared last week saying I’m not going to get any treatment other than HT

  • It’s because I have bronchitisis that they won’t put me under anaesthetic for the Brachnytherapy HDR two faction

  • Hello Jonny (

That's fine - do you have any further information on your diagnosis - is it small cell or neuroendocrine carcinoma of the Prostate?

Don't worry - there are other treatments IF HT fails that don't need anaesthetic.

(Your computer skills are good enough to add the link to your diagnosis so you aren't too bad Grin)

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • T3a Gleason 3+4 carcinoma of the prostate

    Jonnymac22

  • Hi Jonnymac.

What the report is telling you is that the cancer has broken through the capsule but has NOT spread to the seminal vesicles so this is pushing you into a higher risk group. The Gleason score says that the the cancer cells have the potential to grow at an intermediate rate - 3+4 is better than 4+3. Don't worry about the word carcinoma, it just means cancer in the epithelial cells which is the same as adenocarcinoma when referred to glandular material such as the prostate. This is the most common type of prostate cancer and is usually very receptive to hormone therapy.

The hormone therapy injection can work very well for a time but there are other forms of tablet hormone therapy which could be added in at a later date. Beyond this there are targeted therapies which might be suitable.

No one can give you a prognosis but I would think in terms of years so be positive. Prostate cancer treatment is getting better and better all the time.

  • Thanks for info on things , but I’m on a mission to try get this hdr brachytherapy procedure done, I know it’s anaesthetic guy I have to convince I can lay on my back for three hours tho
