Pregabalin

Just called the GP to get a new prescription for codeine as it's (slightly) better than nothing for the pain I'm currently suffering in my back and hips and they have also prescribed Pregabalin

Still another 2 weeks until the consultant appointment to go over the CT and PET scans

Has anyone else been put on this?

How did you get on with it?

Pros and Cons?

I only take codeine when it's really bad but it's always best to have some available when I need it

Any advice is appreciated

  • Hi  thought you were due to see oncologist 8/9 (in your profile), very annoying to have a long delay. David

  • Hello

Mrs M was on these when she had a broken back - she's a retired nurse - read the side effects and quickly weaned her way off them HOWEVER as it's a prescribed medication you should take them as prescribed until told not to do so. Here's a link to more information-

I hope this helps and they reduce the pain you have.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Oops -What year is it?

I’ve fixed the date in the profile and yes it sucks having to wait that long

  • Hi Slartibartfast.

Good evening it's great to meet you today sorry that it's under these circumstances though!!!!

Yes I have been on Pregabline for a number of years following a Stroke and Brain Surgery that caused Chronic Pain all down my right side.

I had found this useful for my Neuropathic Pain but I was also having a Morphine Patch with a number of other meds.

Due to the spread of my cancer to my pelvis I had to start taking liquid morphine as well. But I have since had some radiotherapy to my pelvis and luckily the pain has decreased.

I'm no longer on the liquid morphine thank goodness!!!!!

I hope that this is helpful????

  • Good afternoon.

I have no personal experience with pregabalin but, as   says, you need to take a little care with it.

My daughter was prescribed it for nerve pain.

She had the tiredness and spaced out feeling you often get with pain killers, and her eyes turned a peculiar colour.

    The side effects wore off.

However, after she had been taking them for about a year, the pain killing effect wore off too.

In then end she and her doctor simply decided that there was no point in taking them any more.

It appears there may be, for some people, a "sell-by" date attached, so that something to keep an eye out for.
