Hi All,
my dad had his diagnosis today it has spread to his bones (spine, ribs, sternum and Pelvis) we were told all very small lesions. No spread in lymph nodes.
I struggled to get out of the doctor a Gleason score or staging. He said ones it’s metastatic they don’t worry too much about that - I felt like we were leading the meeting which was disappointing
He said the biopsy showed some with a score 3, 4 and 5. He mentioned M1B can anyone help us piece it together. I was hoping we would have clear information so we could compare to others.
thanks xx
Ahhh I see, thankyou so much! This makes more sense then to do chemotherapy first vs radiation.
Hello CCG,
Sorry you are here if you look at my bio you will see my husband is in a similar situation, he is having triple treatment which is chemotherapy, injections and hormone therapy tablets, he is having his third round of chemo tomorrow and so far is doing really well on it.
They are really pleased with his progress and his psa has dropped from 473 to 0.98 today, his psa should have been 973 but was on medication for enlarged prostate for years.
Its is a real worry at the start and we are still finding our feet with it all so good luck and best wishes.
Hi CCG.
No probs it's my pleasure!!!
The HT is first generation so hopefully it will continue to work well for some time????
Yes the consultant also told us that radiation wasn't an option straight away!!!!
He keeps saying that I am not strong enough for chemo???
But I still feel well apart from the side effects from the HT which are fairly manageable currently.
I believe that the chemo is being kept in reserve in readiness for the PSA to start to rise!!!
Please please don't worry about the question as I am very very happy in helping/supporting you both.

Thanks Irish Terrier, your story on your profile is really helpful. Great to hear he is on his third round and taking it well! How many rounds does he have to go?
Amazing news on the PSA, that’s an incredible drop! Wishing you both all the best with the rest of chemo.
Ah great! Yes I have read for some they have been on it for many many years and it’s working well.
hmm interesting he says your not strong enough but you feel well in yourself. Do you mind me asking your age? My dad is 66.
thanks again for all the help and support.
Some oncologists may recommend the second generation antiandrogens plus the injections initially to shrink the cancer and then add in radiotherapy to the prostate area if the PSA has dropped far enough. Others may add in the chemotherapy before or alongside radiotherapy. Yet others might start with chemotherapy only after first or second generation antiandrogen plus injections. Others might just recommend hormone therapy. It can be a moving feast depending on what the whole picture looks like taking in to accout age, health, initial PSA, Gleason, scan, and whether there are any aggressive traits, plus of course your dads wishes. The thing to do is to ask the oncologist why he thinks that the recommended treatment pathway is the best one for your dad. If you have a preference which is different to the recommended one then have your reasons well prepared so that you can have an informed discussion.
This is so helpful thank you!! We will definitely prepare in advance of the meeting.
Hi CCG.
Thanks, yes I do think that due to being wheelchair bound due to a previous Stroke I do look worse than I actually am!!!
Yes I don't mind you asking my age (58)
I hope that this is helpful????
Prostate Worrier.
Hi CCG, he has to have 6 rounds 3 weeks apart, so he is half way through.
Hi CCG , I would just add to the earlier comments that as your dad has already started HT in my mind, there isn’t so much of a panic to get to see oncology, in fact a few months generally seems preferable to allow the initial HT to work. Brian (Millibob ) will hopefully correct me if I am wrong, but I didn’t want you to be anxious about seeing the oncologist if it wasn’t absolutely urgent. Best wishes, David
Best wishes, David
