OK my husband has T3B Prostrate Cancer, Gleason score 3+4 =7 He’s been offered surgery or hormone treatment with radiotherapy. They are also putting him forward for a trial which means he is fast tracked for the surgery as at the minute there is an eight month waiting list . He needs to get a PET scan to make sure there no lymph nodes involved and it’s not anywhere else to get access to the trial. The guy also said that he will now arrange appointments with the surgeon and oncologist with the view to a curative pathway although cannot guarantees . He might need radiotherapy after the surgery or chemo . But they are definitely looking at removing all the cancer. They don’t have any appointment until middle of July for the surgeon . So it’s just a waiting game . I wasn’t pleased with the time scale so he said get in touch with the government. Asked about going private and he said wait till we see if he gets onto the trial . Xx
Yea I was in local government for 33 years and we often had to deal with councillors & MP’s regularly . I also received a call back from PASS and they have allocated a case worker to me too . So hopefully we get somewhere What I can’t understand that we got the results from our GP two weeks past Monday so why was the case not taken to the MDM last week before we met the specialist nurse and could have progressed yesterday . I just feel it’s constant delaying t tactics as if they give you a little bit hope but then pull the rug from you feet . We are currently on day 66 not seen consultant and no treatment plan agreed or started . Thanks Annieone x
It’s not on! This is not a watch and wait or active surveillance cancer. This is something that is potentially curative if dealt with in a timely manner and should be acted upon as such!
8 months is ridiculous I thought that 2 months was too long.
Hopefully with PALS and Anas Sarwar taking it up you may get some action.
x
Sorry but I think that’s a load of nonsense. I think they are doing a good job considering Westminster has cut the NHS budget for the whole of the Uk
in my case I had the consultation with the surgeon in September and had the surgery in December at 9wells hospital in Dundee
Probably a postcode lottery I’m in Oban was first given a PSA test in December ,MRI and Biopsy done and got my results on 4/1/24 am on HT now and due radiation in August Beatson in Glasgow have been spot on apart from 1 cancelled appointments, but got a cancellation the next week so I’m happy xx
Hi Robert, I think you are right it’s a postcode lottery . My OH waited 6 weeks for his initial MRI even although our GP did the cancer fast track and she phoned too but it’s just the anxiety waiting for treatment. We are now on day 80 and not seen a consultant. Hope you are doing ok x
From the research I’ve been doing I believe Scotland seem to be in a worse state for the wait times than England which I’m still appalled at! No person should exceed their NHS guideline for treatment! I had a private conversation on a different t forum with a wife of another Gleeson 9 man waiting for surgery in Scotland and she tells me that he has not even seen a consultant within the guideline times let alone had his surgery! It’s all appalling Wales seem to be similar so Labour in Wales SNP in Scotland and Tory England. What a mess this situation is
My heart goes out to all of you waiting too long for appointments. For us, the anxiety about getting timely appointments was the hardest part of this whole journey. The ‘not knowing’ and the feeling of having no control of our lives is unbearable. The one thing I did ( and I can’t remember how I came to do it!) was tell each and every hospital department that we were prepared to drop everything and go to the hospital if and when somebody cancelled their own appointment. This worked really well for us as we are retired and could do this. I also kept a diary of every contact with the hospital - especially including people’s names and contact details so I could ring up and remind them we were there, waiting to hear. I don’t know whether this would work now and in Scotland. We are in England. I think there might be differences across the nations?
The one advantage those waiting today have that we didn’t in 2022 is that politicians are listening as they want your votes.
I really hope you all get the timely appointments you need and deserve and that all goes well.
.
