OK my husband  has T3B Prostrate Cancer, Gleason score 3+4 =7  He’s been offered surgery or hormone treatment with radiotherapy. They are also putting him forward for a trial which means he is fast tracked for the surgery as at the minute there is an eight month waiting list . He needs to get a PET scan to make sure there no lymph nodes involved and it’s not anywhere else to get access to the trial. The guy also said that he will now arrange appointments with the surgeon and oncologist with the view to a curative pathway although cannot guarantees . He might need radiotherapy after the surgery or chemo . But they are definitely looking at removing all the cancer. They don’t have any appointment until middle of July for the surgeon . So it’s just a waiting game . I wasn’t pleased with the time scale so he said get in touch with the government. Asked about going private and he said wait till we see if he gets onto the trial . Xx

  • Thanks Steve . It is in left seminal vesicle. But they are not sure about one  lymph node so that’s why the PET scan . I’m so happy that you all care so much it’s so appreciated

  • Hi there.

I feel exactly the same about the waiting and am complaining also!
My husband is now on day 74 from referral and breached the guidelines

The urologist was so dire In his description of my husbands Gleason 9 cancer but has made no move to try and give him earlier surgery despite my attempts to ask him if he is doing surgery on people before him that are considered low risk! I asked his secretary and he told her to leave him where he was in the order!

however I did ring everyday and I think they were fed up of me as a miraculous cancellation (with a different surgeon)  had come up for two weeks time!

I cannot believe they will keep high risk men waiting months and months and allow a cancer that could be curable become incurable.

What is the point in telling men to get early testing to then leave them languishing for treatment!

my advice is to ring often, keep your name at the front of their minds and hope you get somewhere!

I hope for the very best for you

  • Hi Annieone, is this in Scotland too? Thank you for your support xx

  • Hi

    No this is in England

  • So it’s everywhere . Sad days x

  • Very Sad, very wrong and totally agonising for those of us who sit and wait.

  • Am on a mission today written to 3 MSP’s  and 1 MP so far as I need to keep busy rather than sit and cry . X

  • Hi Johnam.

I'm very sorry to hear that he can't do HT if he's doing the trial.

That's "SHOCKING" to read that he has to wait so long for the treatment don't they realise it is "CANCER" that we are talking about!!!!!!

Please let me know if there is anything that I can help/support you with????

    Prostate Worrier.

  • Hi,  I’ve just spoken to PASS which is the equivalent to PAL in Scotland . They are going to try and sort something out . I also received an email from Anas Sarwar  and he is also going to try and deal with it . I’m going round the houses right now looking for help and answers .

  • Keep banging on doors, ringing people etc

Anas Sarwar is high profile so if he gets his case workers ringing and challenging the hospital I have a feeling you may be offered something soon!
I say this as someone who has worked in an area where if local MPs were on the case then our departments certainly “shifted”

It’s awful we have to fight for what should be a basic human right.

    Keep Fighting x
