Has anyone experience of this new treatment on the NHS in the north of England please?
I ought to have said HIFU for prostrate cancer! Supporting my husband
Hi Cumbrialady .
Welcome to the group. I have done a quick trawl and have found this site. Unfortunately the nearest appears to be in the Midlands.
Midlands wouldn’t be a problem from Cumbria. My friend had it in London (from Lincolnshire) and one consultation and then one operation. The rest by phone and email. AW
Hello Cumbrialady
I had the HIFU procedure on the 7th of May, so 2 days ago, in a private hospital in London as I’m lucky enough to have Bupa cover through my employment. Not really on your door step but I was under the impression that HIFU is not available on the NHS at all, unless as part of a trial. I chose HIFU probably for the same reasons you are looking into it, less invasive and lower risk of long term troubles and no bridges are burnt for future treatment if required.
I wish you all the best in finding what you need for your Husband.
why oh why
Hi there! Would you be able to send me the details of your private hospital in London? I am hoping my dad can recieve HIFU from a clinical trial, would would like to explore plan B in case that doesn't work out for him. Thank you in advance, and hope you are recovering well?
Here is a list of hospitals although it is always good to have a recommendation.
Hello Esoteric
sorry for the delay in response, had a mad busy weekend, which I probably wouldn’t have been up to if I hadn’t chosen HIFU treatment.
Anyway, the hospital where I received my HIFU treatment was Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital, Parkside, Wimbledon, London. The whole experience was seamless for me, after care during the 1 night stay was excellent and I would certainly recommend.
i don’t think I’m allowed to mention the prof who was in charge of my care on this forum, the link that Always hope has posted does show the person in question (HIFU the movie) he is a leading light on HIFU treatment in the UK.
I hope this info is of use and I wish you and your father well.
If I can offer any more info, please just ask.

Yes you can as it's a personal experience you have had. It's "naming and shaming" we can't be having as it opens us up to legal action.
Thanks for your help in supporting others,
Best wishes - Brian.

Ok, so I can mention the HIFU Specialist who headed up my treatment, His name is Professor Hashim Ahmed, Consultant Urological Surgeon. I had a telephone consultation with him prior to opting for the procedure and met him in person on the day.
