I have been advised by my GP that Oncology have requested that I move from 3 monthly Decapetyl injections to 6 monthly Triptorelin 22.5mg injections. Has anybody else made this change and understand why it has been made. In addition what impact has it had on the frequency of your PSA testing.
Hi Skippy1959 .
How have you fared with the chemotherapy?
To answer your question, the only difference is the name so you shouldn't notice any change. Decapeptyl is the brand name, triptorelin the generic name and probably cheaper. It shouldn't make any difference to PSA testing.
Hi Skippy1959
Great to hear from you again - I hope we find you well.
I am on the six monthly Decapeptyl 22.5mg injections. I assume the change is to reduce your visits to the Doctors. As far as I am aware as Alwayshope says triptorelin is a generic name and from memory if you visit the NICE pricing site Decapeptyl is one of the most expensive brands -last time I looked it was about £ 420.00 per 6 monthly jab. .
Some other H T jabs - Prostap I think were cheaper - it depends on your prescribing team. As I was on 3 years HT they started me on 6 monthly jabs to reduce visits to the GP.
Keep well - Best wishes - Brian.
