Been on monthly hormone injections now for 3 years since diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer,  just wondering if anyone has gone from one month to three months,  having pains in stomach every month and trying to juggle holidays etc is a nightmare,  I know the saying if ain't broke don't fix it (oncologist words) just want a better quality of life.

  • Hi Hotflushiva. I am on prostap for life and started on monthly injections for the first 3 months then on to 3 monthly injections since with little discomfort, I don't know what HT injections you are on so couldn't  say if you could go 3 monthly or even have the injection in a different place, though that it has kept your PSA so low for over 3 years is amazing, best wishes.

  • Hi  .

There are several types of hormone injections or implants which can be given 1, 3, 6 or 12 monthly. As yours is causing pain I suggest you speak to your doctor and ask if you can be switched onto a 3 monthly one initially and monitor your PSA and testosterone to check that it is having the desired effect. My husband is on Prostap for life and has his injection into the stomach every 3 months with very few injection site problems.

  • Hello   I am on 3 years of Hormone therapy Rage, however I am on Decapeptyl.  I was on 6 monthly injections from the start. I have had no adverse reactions to the 6 monthly jabs and they are in the Gluteus Maximus (backside for those who don't know!).

I can't see any reason why you can't change as I understand they are different in name only (although some are priced higher by NICE).

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks for the reply Eddie, I'm on Degarelix injections and yes the treatment is working well with the added enzutomide tablets, the specialist nurse said there should be no problem just worried about changing the treatment.

  • Thanks for the reply alwayshope, I'm on the injections for life but swaying to 3 monthly injections  already dropped from 4 enzutomide tablets to 3 anything for a better quality of life.

  • My husband was on the Prostap 3 monthly with Enzalutamide so that combination could be a possibility. Monitoring is the key if any change is made.

As far as I am aware Degarelix is only available in 28 day injections

  • Cheers Millibob, I think I would be nervous on 6 months so hopefully 3 months will be fine  your advice is always second to none much appreciated.

  • HI I'm pretty similar to you advanced PCa and HT for life, even have osteoarthritis, though my HT is not working as well as it was, last 2 PSA tests have shown a rise, and will have to think about a change soon, which as you know is a concern next test June 3rd to see where we go, good luck with your decision.

  • Thanks Eddie, hoping your psa results are a blip, if it is rising I'm sure there are other treatments out there, be positive and I hoping I have more replies from you for many more years to come

  • I'm hoping they will give me something to take along side the prostap injections as the PSA rises are small though i had an operation this morning and my heart coped with anaesthetic unbelievably well so maybe chemo is a possibility again, read my profile, always try to be positive and enjoy life, nurses want me to get some sleep. take care.
