Marking a month after surgery with a pub lunch

I am slightly reluctant to post this as a) I know there are so many guys on here that are having real problems and b) I think most of the current posters are RT guys so maybe of no interest.
Anyway, I am now just over a month (March 1st) post robotic prostatectomy surgery and decided to mark the occasion by taking my lovely wife who has looked after me so well for a pub lunch at our local.
We walked there and back (no massive distance - although we did walk around a local lake yesterday) enjoyed starters and mains and I really enjoyed my first couple of pints of Mad Goose in 6 weeks.
I feel perfectly well, have no discomfort, and can confidently be away from home without worrying about needing the toilet urgently.
The remaining issues are minor incontinence when walking, although virtually nothing at night. I wear a Tenna 2 in the daytime and Tenna 1 at night. I am determined to reduce this further by continuing pelvic floor exercise monitored by the Squeezy app.
The other issue is ED and TBH this was never a show stopper as this was kicking in anyway. We are as close as ever and hopefully some functionality will return over time but the primary target was always to be cancer free and to be able to live our lives as before.
Although I realise that a setback can happen at any time, I am optimistic that my recovery will continue in the right direction, day by day up to my next key date in a couple of months when I get a PSA test to find out if if I’m cancer free.
If not, we’ll deal with it, but here’s hoping :)
  • Hi Amnesiac. I think it is important to highlight the positive stories. I believe that news like this is crucial especially those who are struggling or indeed those awaiting surgery. Steady as she goes is the watchword. I would encourage those who may be reluctant to engage , to do so. The support I have received has been invaluable.  Best of Irish Luck to you all. S

  • Hello   Please feel free to post anything - but success stories are more than welcome!!  Yours is a cracking post as it shows that surgery can work and with a positive attitude and a supportive family you can get through this.

It's when I personally read stories like yours that I wish possibly I could have gone down that path but being a wimp - having a "high" initial PSA with a possible spread and an enlarged prostate it was not to be - however

Your post is both helpful and informative to people considering surgery. I will raise my pint glass (only J W Lees's finest best bitter) to you tonight and long may your recovery continue. Keep posting please..

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Amnesiac,

It's great to hear a positive update following prostate removal as it shows peoples worst fears can just be that - fears.  Your post will help inform decision making as to whether to go down that route or opt for HT / RT instead (the route I chose).

All the best for your continued recovery.

    Brian

  • Thanks Millibob Brian. Very much appreciated. Thought you’d be on the Efes :)

  • Hi  ,  thanks for your post and don’t worry it certainly doesn’t upset me, quite the contrary.  I wear my ‘man of men’ badge at all times trying to encourage other men to get tested early so that ‘curative’ is in their diagnosis and the more positive posts like yours, as far as I am concerned, the better.  Best wishes, David
