Hi everyone
Has anyone had any bruising on their body due to having chemo or other treatment. I recently started to have bruising on one hand. One red bruise appeared then another after a week on back of my hand. Is this normal when having treatment and when my blood test was done all levels seem to be ok.
Hi Ash.
Hubby had this develop in first hand a few days after second session. In his case it was caused by the chemo drug leaching out of the vein. Technicians took one look at it and wouldn't use that hand again. Moved on to the other one. Same thing happened after 5th session so last one was in the back of the original wrist. It is important to let the technicians know if you feel any discomfort either when they put the catheter in or during the infusion. Make sure you keep the 'bruised' hand well moisturised with something like Vaseline and Aloe Vera. It can take several weeks for the hand to return to normal.
If the bruising is elsewhere then this can happen with chemotherapy if your blood platelets have dropped - if they go too low then you can be given injections of Epoetin alpha.
Hope everything is still going ok with the chemo.
Thank you for your reply Linda and the information
Linda I hope you and hubby are well. I will have my fourth chemo tomorrow and will show the nurses my hand. Two more chemo's left and can't wait as the affects have made my body weak and fatigued.
All the best for tomorrow Ash. Just listen to your body and rest when you need to but it is still important to have some exercise if you can.
We are both fine but have an oncologist appointment on Friday as hubbys PSA is going up again.
Hope your hubby's appointment goes well Linda. The PSA levels go up and down with alot patients. Hopefully the next PSA level will be down for him.
Hi ash, sorry I have only just seen your post. This happened to my husband after his 2nd session. At first I thought he had burnt his hand but he said he hadn't. Next as he had been gardening we thought it was a bite. During his next chemo he showed the nurse and she was not at all concerned said it was just a reaction to the chemo needle going in after a few days the skin started to peel and then healed. I had forgotten about it until you saud
Hi Shar thank you for your reply. My bruises are coming up on the hand because of the chemo affects. I did show the oncology nurses my hand and they said the bruises should go away just to put a moisturiser on it. I think this is all the side affects of the treatment I am having.
