Well, I’m still here Grin
Brief summary: diagnosed in November following self organised PSA test, no symptoms whatsoever, decided on robotic prostatectomy, had operation 4 days ago.
Fortunately, I was first on the list so no waiting around. Once changed into skimpies things happen very quickly and in no time I was counting backwards zzzzz.
After a four hour operation I woke in the recovery ward feeling very thirsty but comfortable with no pain and a catheter in place. Really well looked after on the ward although I have scant recollection of the first information chats as still groggy. Loved the meals and endless supply of tea and coffee.
Released the following day after info chat re catheter and care with massive bag of catheter spares, dvt socks, mini jabs to thin blood, paracetamol etc etc.
My wife has been absolutely fantastic and has become my carer. She helps me move, empties my pee, helps me dress, gives me my daily jab and generally runs around after me.
I have 6 small entry marks ( was expecting 3), getting used to the catheter and have some abdominal discomfort that really limits my movement but I’m sure this will improve.
I’m amazed how much urine is produced in the night - hence the night bag.
Just had my first proper shower (assisted - hilarious) and feel like a person again.
I have to say that although this is a serious business, we still laugh (often) at some of the situations we find ourselves in.
Although I fully realise this could all go wrong at any time, I’m deeply thankful to the NHS, my wife, and you guys that got me this far.
Next stage is catheter out in 8 days - fingers crossed everything works as it should.
Then PSA test in 3 months time.
I’ve gone from feeling cursed to feeling very, very lucky.
Will check in after the TWOC - this meant something different in my day Blush
