Hi All,
First two months of HT treatment, husband PSA an testosterone dropped nicely and today it went up a little instead of carry on dropping. This is only the start of journey for us so I expected further falls and not upwards ( even little, testosterone from 1 to 2 and PSA from 0.52 to 0.54) I know it is not much increase but the direction is not the right one.
Anyone experience similar issue at the start of the journey ( 3 months)
Lots of love
Dafna
its gone up a fraction personally i wouldn't worry too much
psa can go up and down depending when u go for the test
if i go for a test after working it will always be a little higher than if i'd gone on a non working day
its early days things should settle down
my psa has been 0.04 to 0.09 now for over 4years
Hi Dafna.
Don't panic. Firstly with the testosterone I am surprised it is only 1 decimal place. If statistical rules are followed a value of 1 could be anywhere up to 1.5. A value of 2 can be anywhere down to 1.51 so there may not be much of a change, but also the testosterone levels can vary daily. With the PSA, a 0.02 variation is very small and Jacob has had a big drop so far thanks to the HT. Keep in mind that you have 6 sessions of radiotherapy coming up soon so you don't know what the PSA nadir is yet.
Hello jacobanddafna Worry not - there are a million and one factors that can increase a reading: If he's been swimming, cycling or exercising, this can affect your results The guidelines are no vigorous exercise in the 48 hours before a test!! Any change in medication or supplements can cause a change in reading too.
Don't forget even laboratories can be different - my GP sends tests to one hospital and my 6 monthly PSA tests are done at another hospital.
personally i wouldn't worry too much
and he's right.
Jacob's "nadir" (lowest) reading is the one 18 months AFTER radiotherapy - so your journey is going fine so far. plenty of time for it to go down further.
Best wishes - Brian.

Still doing well at this end. MRI scans tomorrow so a bit of scanxiety at the moment. Results on Friday and the oncologist next week, along with another blood test to see if the kidney function has come back up.
Busy in the garden rotovating the veg plot, mowing the grass, shifting 3 tons of logs into the log shed and generally tidying up the garden. Next job is to cut the hedges. Still managing to go out for lunch twice a week, plus coffee on Sunday mornings. It's nice that the weather is warming up now, although it has been mild this winter.
Good luck for tomorrow! Cross fingers and everything else.
I imagine your garden with the olive trees and veg plots and it sound like paradise!
With all the best wishes
Dafna
Our hedges need doing if you have some spare time Hope all goes well with the latest scans etc
I'll let you do your own Buzzers - 120m of our own is more than enough.
We are greeted like old friends now when hubby goes for his scans as he has been going every 3 months for the last 3.5 years. They should send me the results tomorrow so shouldn't have long to wait.
That's one big hedge, so will let you off helping this end. If you could send some sunny dry weather though it would be appreciated
