Finished RT 18 months ago but recently had 2 and a half weeks of blood in my urine (a lot so it looked like red wine) I've had antibiotics so not an infection, ultrasound and cystoscopy show nothing irregular apart from the fact that my prostate is growing back. Has anyone else had similar issues after RT? Currently waiting for a CT scan.
Hello Harry Now you have asked an interesting question there. In my thirst for knowledge I have asked a couple of questions which may help you.
* Towards the end of my RT after fraction 16 I had a review and asked how was my Prostate. Initially there was no answer but when pushed after I said "you do a positioning scan before each dose so you must know" The answer was "it's a rough scan and it shows your prostate as a mush - once the RT is over and your immune system has sorted out the cells it will harden up again"
* I had a TURP at the back end of 2021 - They removed some "chips" from my Prostate - I asked if they would grow back and the actual answer was "The prostate does recover and you may require another TURP in 7 - 10 years.
I would be very concerned about the blood in your urine - I had this issue when first diagnosed as I was retaining urine and was diagnosed with CKD (chronic kidney disease) Don't forget I am not a professional but the 2 tests I would be after are a PSA and eGFR (kidney function test).
I hope this helps - is there anything else i can do for you.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thanks Brian, already had an eGFr (Normal) and a recent PSA 3 months ago at 0.4, ultrasound also showed nothing untoward in the kidneys. The bleeding only lasted 2 1/2 weeks and seems fine now, it's just that I've seen confusing info about the prostate "growing back" and the urologist who carried out the cystoscopy seemed concerned. Hopefully the CT scan will put my mind at rest, just wondering if anyone else had been through this. Thanks for the response though.
Hi Harry
Did you have any procedure like a cystoscopy before the bleeding episode? I ask because I have read, and it was quite emphatic, that those who have had R.T. should avoid future cystoscopies where possible.
I have had some prostate regrowth after HOLEP. During a cystoscopy I looked at the screen and noted how vascular it was. During the cystoscopy, the doctor commented on the obvious regrowth and vascularity.
