Decision made. I’m pT3a, N0 M0 (see my profile for details ). My extensive research points to a combo treatment of HT / RT / Brachy (NHS and NICE approved). MDT met again a couple of days ago and their recommendation (without my input) was the same. I had a consultation at Addenbrookes yesterday with a top prostatectomy surgeon and he agreed with me that my decision was the best one, as surgery would carry at least a 30% chance of recurrence. So I collected my prescription on way out! I took my first bicalutamide tablet taken this morning…..so the treatment is underway. Just over 62 days (NHS target) since GP referral so well done to them after a thorough diagnosis. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders with regards to timelines (chasing the NHS, politely!), but I’m under no illusion that the next few months of treatment will present challenges. My wife and I are a strong team and we intend to take everything in our stride and, hopefully, this curative pathway will prevail. Here we go…..wish us luck!
Hi AW,
For what its worth I think Brian is right and RT down below have to do a serious hiking to your throat.
I suffer from throat reflux for the last 5 years. Few things to eliminate from citrus to drink with gas, tomatoes, raw onion and garlic.
The reason I reply to your post is that there is a very simple test done by ENT consultant in our amazing NHS . A camera going down your throat. It does not need any anastesia and it takes 2 minutes. This will eliminate any sinister staff in the esophagus. Better be safe than sorry.
Have fun where ever you hike now
Lots of love
Dafna
Hi Andy62 - did you get reflux after your full pelvic radiotherapy? AW
I've had that done. Not a problem at all
Took me by surprise a bit because I was expecting a wait when they mentioned the idea of a test.
"Oh no, I can do it now" had me looking a bit like a rabbit in headlights.
My wife giggled.
Steve
Changed, but not diminished.
Hi Dafna, I had an endoscopy a few weeks ago, I'm glad you found it simple my friend, I have RAD, radiation associated dysphagia, so now you know 2 things radiotherapy can cause in your throat.
love Eddie xx
Morning Eddie,
So sorry about all these troubles. I had endoscopy and the other two scopy's but this camera through you nose to the throat is a very simple procedure, nothing like all the scopy's .
Is all good with you and Mandy? The new twins?
Lots of love
Dafna
PS. Here at the moment is better than expected. The 15 months bones scan and CT shows great improvement with the mets. I am full with cold at the moment but when get my energy back I will write a detailed post about it
Hi Dafna, that's fabulous news with Jacob's results, I'm so happy for you both, bugger about the cold though, I hope your through it soon, the twins are doing great as is mum, we visited them at the weekend 140 miles is too much some days, but we had a lovely time. Two of the girls, me and their mum, who has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she's is in surgery as I write this, almost 6 hours now.
It was confirmed last Tuesday I have 4 tumours in my spine, similar to AH, not a sign of them on a DEXA scan in November, but there were suspicious markers on my ribs so had another scan in January which picked them up, I was put on Enzalutamide 8/9 weeks ago on suspicion of rib mets, so looking like a happy accident, PSA already down over 90% and tumours well away from damaged area, so can be targeted reasonably safely with SBRT, if I want it...

Hi Eddie,
So very sorry to hear that. When you have a momentary joy it sneak in in the back door. The Enzu is pretty strong effective treatment, that's what did it for Jacob, eliminate most of the mets for the time being. We know it is temporary but as a wise man told me yesterday: we are all temporary. I hold everything for you that the Enzu works the same for you.
Surgery for the ovarian cancer, is it like PC when they operate its mean it did not break through? Hopefully she will have a full recovery!
Lots of love
Dafna
Hi Dafna, thank you, but sadly Lesleys ovarian cancer is stage 4, and she had five organs and part of her small intestine removed in a nine and a half hour operation, but the surgeons are happy they removed all visible signs of cancer, and have given her time at least.
love Eddie xx
Hi Eddie,
Your family goes through so much. I am so sorry to hear all this. I know that you support them all and being a pillar of strength. It is re-emphasis that we have to enjoy what we have now otherwise you can go really mental of over thinking all that.
Sending you lots of hugs from the south and holding your hands
Lots of love
Dafna
Thank you Dafna, I've sent a reply by Email.
