Hello. We joined the PC 'club ' in March with a diagnosis of a T3b N1 M1 , psa 170. Gleason of 4+5 ..9

Hubby has just finished the last of his course of 6 chemotherapy and has been doing OK in the most part. He has worked still through most of his treatment and is doing better than I am .... The thing is, he swears that at the first visit to oncologist he was told he has 2 to 3years left. I had left the room to get a drink so didn't hear this.  Am I being naive or completely clutching at straws and have I got it so wrong, as I thought it was not going to be that quick in losing him. This is making me ill.

  • You could always ask or tell them you are going to record the conversation in your phone so that you can listen to it later

  • Same here. I often want to break that stick over his head and it's not just PC related. We each hear different things in so many different situations. I have been proven wrong sometimes though, not often  but occasionally.

  • Help please.  I know one of you kind people will know the answer to my question.  So hubby has been taking Lansoprazole each morning to protect he's stomach  and 2 Prednisolone (steroids?) each day during his 6 chemo's.  He had his 6th nearly 2 weeks ago , so my question is.. what happens when his tablets run out next week?

  • My husband gets the medication that was listed on his hospital discharge report from our gp on repeat prescription. I advise you to go into the surgery with the packaging for the medication and ask for a prescription.

  • Thanks, we just assumed that chemo done, tablets finish . Will have to ask at Gp . See I knew someone would have the answer.

  • As my husband didn’t have ht, rt or chemo I don't know if yours should be continuing with the medication now his chemo is finished. Maybe they only gave him sufficient to cover him while he was being treated.

Not sure who you need to speak to about this, but if you have a number for the department where he had the chemo it may be wise to ring them. There's no point in him taking drugs that he doesn’t need.

    Sorry I can't be more helpful x

  • That's OK.  Not too sure what to do. I don't want him going 'cold turkey' coming off all the steroids.  Might get him to call the sunflower dept on Monday for more info..

  • Hi- I would contact the g p or chemo unit.  Having been on steroids for 18 weeks usually have a reducing dose to ensure adrenal function. OH was same & contacted chemo centre who gave reducing dose. Good luck & hope journey goes well x

  • Thanks for the message,  will get hubby to call on Monday for more info.

  • Hi there. Thanks for the info last week. Hubby called the GP today re steroids and he has been given a reducing  dose plan for the next few weeks. All good.
