Hi all, I don’t post here often but hope to start a discussion on Docetaxel, I am sure there have been other discussion though. You can see from my profile that I am stage 4 and in my case Abiraterone has failed quite quickly (3 to 4 months). PSA now 31.6 from a low of 4 I think. So it never really had the impact on my that others might have seen. I am now considered to be Castration resistant PC. In discussion with Oncoligist she has said the best option now it to try and halt the progression of cancer (quite widespread in bones) with 10 sessions of Docetaxel. I am interested in other peoples experiences of this chemotherapy and happy to record my journey with it here of it might be helpful to others in the future. I start at the on the 6th of Feb with bloods on the 2nd and pre Chemotherapy and call with Oncologist on the 3rd of Feb.
Any experience you have had are welcome here. Hope you are all well.
Cheers

Hi JNC, i Am on slow release morphine now. I was using the liquid too but for fast acting but have moved onto fast acting tablets now for a higher dose. It is helpful and they all just tell me to take what I need when I need it!
Thank you for your your support and good wishes

Hi Michael,
I just read this entire thread and I’m want to thank you for keeping it going even though you’ve been through horrible side effects. I hope they find something that turns the tide for you. Hopefully a clinical trial will work. I did one 18 years ago for leukemia and although it nearly did me in, I’ve been in remission ever since. I just had my first round of docetaxel 7 days ago and I felt fine for 4 days afterward. I was able to walk my daughter down the aisle for her wedding with no issues. Day 5 things got worse but still nothing compared to what you’ve been through and are going through.
I hope things improve for you.

Hi Ed, thanks for taking the time to read through all of this and for your support. So glad to read that you were able to walk your daughter down the aisle. You will have seen the side effects I had but I also know many folk don’t get too bad side effects from this type of chemo. Fingers crossed you fall into that side of things. Sending you positive vibes for your Prostate cancer too Ed. I see you are a fellow traveller in the stage 4 world. I do pray that chemo and RT and hormone therapy will do the trick for you, at least they are throwing the book at it. I have passed details of a trial to my oncologist so waiting to see what she says to that. So good to see the remission you had from your first cancer and since 2008.
Again thanks for reading and feedback and good luck with your treatments Ed.

Hi everyone. I thought I would give you a short update as there has been a good bit going on. I had a rough time with the combination of the chemo and the radiotherapy. was completely wiped out and sleeping all day long. I organised some blood tests and discovered I was very anaemic and had to have a blood transfusion, 2 units. Since then I have also started on vitamin b12 tabs (tablets at the moment until we see what happens). I have also had a suspicious bowel test and need a scope to check for bleeding in that area. This could be secondary, primary or just something caused by bone tablets I am on. I am still waiting on the news re radium 223 and also possible clinical trials. No idea yet if either is a possible. So it’s been a difficult time and feels like one thing on top of another. I should be back at the end of the week with a good update on what going on for future treatment. As ever I hope you are all well and thanks for reading and any feedback. Best wishes
Michael
