Hi all, I don’t post here often but hope to start a discussion on Docetaxel, I am sure there have been other discussion though.  You can see from my profile that I am stage 4 and in my case Abiraterone has failed quite quickly (3 to 4 months).  PSA now 31.6 from a low of 4 I think.  So it never really had the impact on my that others might have seen.  I am now considered to be Castration resistant PC. In discussion with Oncoligist she has said the best option now it to try and halt the progression of cancer (quite widespread in bones) with 10 sessions of Docetaxel.  I am interested in other peoples experiences of this chemotherapy and happy to record my journey with it here of it might be helpful to others in the future.  I start at the on the 6th of Feb with bloods on the 2nd and pre Chemotherapy and call with Oncologist on the 3rd of Feb.

Any experience you have had are welcome here.  Hope you are all well.

Cheers

  • Hi J, Thanks for this.  I am hoping they can tell me it is doing something after the scan or the bloods start to show some downward trend.  I am sure it will happen.

  • They did a scan on my husband at round 5 as he had problems with pain in his back and spine, the scan came back showing shrinkage of the tumours so all good, if he hadn’t of had those scans then it would have been quite a wait to find out if the treatment was working, hopefully you will get the same

    very best wishes

  • Thank you J yes at least I will know what’s going on, thanks for your good wishes.

  • Hello Morton, I’m sorry to read that things are still so very difficult for you. It’s a tough time. I do hope that when you get the scan the results will be encouraging.  I’m afraid I don’t know enough about chemo to say whether the increase in PSA is to be expected ( a flare?). I just hope things improve for you really soon. Try not to lose heart - we are all here for you a wishing you all the very best x

  • Thank you, worriedwife.  There is the possibility if a flare from chemo, not sure if this sustained level of increasing is normal but a re flare like but I guess the scan will help understand that.  I am staying hopeful and postive and also even if this chemo isn't the best there are some other options.  So still paths to be Trod so to speak lol.  Thank you, Your support is appreciated. X

  • Oh man, you are having a tough time, I really feel for you and wish I had more for you than just words.
I'm one cycle ahead of you and I do hope your side-effects start to ease as mine did. I found the fatigue very difficult, and disheartening.
My very best wishes to you, sending all the positive waves, and sincerest hope that yes, there is a good response waiting around the corner for you. I'm in the same boat as you, buddy, this is some voyage.

  • Thank you Dave, how are things with your PSA levels do you know? Have they kept you informed ?  Thank you for your good wishes, it really helps a lot and hope you do well on your cycles.  Yeah I would rather take a plane lol !

  • Thanks, Morton. Thankfully my PSA is heading in the right direction. After 2 years on Enzalutamide, with a low of 0.06, new sites developed and it went up to 40+. After three chemo cycles it's backed down to 14 and the doctors are pleased with that. Me too. My team at the Marsden keep me well-informed and listen to me carefully.

  • This is great here Dave, I am glad it is going in the correct direction. Fingers crossed I can have a similar movement in PSA soon.

    Cheers

  • Hi @morton68 I’m 4 years post docetaxel thankfully still undetected psa
