I just had my first yearly chat with my consultent after a year of active surveilliance.

He was happy with the low PSA results but that is all.

Should I not have had a MRI scan before thuis meeting because I feel that PSA Resualts are not just the thing he should be

following.

Any ideas on this.

Thanks

Les

  • Hi les

Suppose depends on PSA history, is it increasing

    Steve

  • PSA Levels have stayed  the same all year

  • So what is the figure, is there any reason for dr's /specialists to be concerned, IE, problems/discomfort in that area

  • PSA. Are 2.1 to 2.2  No other problems. But can PSA readings be that good to say things are not going bad ??.

  • Hi les s, PSA is a guide only, it's not a case of how high the psa is but how quickly it rises, slow rising psa is normally active survalance, fast rising psa could be a sign of agressive cancer, if you are worried ask the urologists or oncologist for answers after all it's your body.

    All the best Ulls

  • Those figures are normal Les.

You would'nt expect a MRI unless they start increasing  or possibly unless u had symptoms.

Otherwise they would be doing a MRI on all males.

I would stop worrying about it, yearly MRI should be fine.

Just to give an idea I stared having PSA about 50 onwards and after many years in the 2's it went up to over 4 so got sent for MRI and it was cancer. But wouldn't have had the MRI when it was 2

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Tha chat was the first one with the consultent for a year,,, my first year... I had ny first MRI Scan after being :: diagnosed last  year  I now have to wait for a MRI to be arranged: for this year. I just think that it should have been done before the chat .

  • What did the MRI show last year Les in terms of tumour size.

    have u had a biopsy.

    Steve

  • It was a very small tumour...yes I have had a biopsy gleesen 6. I have been told do not worry to much and get on with life.. But I guess you know that word cancer never leaves you mind. I think I have got over the shock of being told that I have got prostate cancer. and now getting on with life.

    Les

  • So it all looks ok Les, could be worth finding out tumour size in mm at some point, at least u can compare later on.

Funnily enough I do remember being very happy when I found out Gleeson 6 because I knew very treatable.

I suppose if I was in your shoes I would push for another MRI at some stage but your PSA is so low , another year should be ok.

I used to have a MRI yearly while on AS, for 4 years, but then my PSA was rising all the time, 4 to about 12 in 4 years. I presume they don't want to give treatment at the moment and you're ok with that.

    Good luck
