Hi all, second post from me but this time my husband is keen to hear from others in a similar situation.
briefly, he was diagnosed at the end of May with stage 4, Gleason 9, spread to pelvic wall and multiple lymph nodes. the oncologist said prognosis 18-24 months but if treatment works then maybe 4 years. My husband is finding this prognosis so difficult to comes to terms with. I have tried to reassure him that this may not be the case as I have read on here of lots in a similar situation that have surpassed this time.
We are still in complete shock and my husband still feels really angry as he had been back and forth to see the GP for a couple of years with, what we know now, many symptoms of prostate cancer and maybe if he hears about guys in a similar situation then it may help.
thank you all x
Hi I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer last March spreading to nodes, pelvic bone, 6th rib collar bone and shoulder blade, my psa was 305, oncologist said 8 years ago he would give me 2yrs max.started monthly hormone injections which brought psa down to 3.5 then onto enzalutamide tablets which brought psa down to 0.007 and has been that reading since last June (16 months), told me I would be on this treatment for quite a few years Still have chemotherapy and radiotherapy in his back pocket when the tablets stop working. Never asked him how many years have I got, I'm 63 and trying to enjoy life, I work part time and play 5 aside football hopefully this reply will help you, I know everyone is different but I try to be positive.
thank you for your reply. it’s great they talk about treatment for quite a few years to come, it’s so much more positive
best wishes to you
Hi Hotflushiva you have made my day, it's good to read you are 8 year's in and still going strong, your treatment is almost the same as mine, hormone, with chemo waiting in the future, I've advanced matast prostate cancer and Mets in lymps and bone's, thanks for the boost.
Sorry Ulls my grammar is shite what I meant to say was when I was diagnosed in March 2021 the oncologist said 8-10years ago I would be lucky to last 2 years but with all the treatment out there you're talking 5 years plus, I know someone who was 70 and was diagnosed with the same prognosis as mine and has now just turned 80.
January 21 for me I was 73 then, Urologist said 24 months tops, that's be cause the cancer would eventually eat its way through the bones ( True) and that i would be in so much pain I would be put into a coma until the end, good job I was transferred to oncology, much prefer their outlook.
