Greetings all who may read this,
I was on monthly injections for my cancer until the end of July, when feeling very well and enjoying life I changed to the 3 month injection. The first couple of weeks I struggled, walking was difficult, as an asthmatic as well I had a major flare up and then suddenly for the next six to eight weeks I was fantastic, charging around, dealing with whatever came my way and generally getting on with life at a pace even none cancer people couldn't keep up with.
At the end of October this suddenly changed and although I was still enjoying life, I was visibly slowing down.
At the beginning of November I got a cold that developed into a slight chest infection that doesn't seem to respond to anything including antibiotics.
And then for the two weeks before my next injection I went through what can only be decribed as drug withdrawal, to the point of becoming suicidal and extremely irrational. All my support people kicked into gear, they got me through it but I am not the same person. I am far more cold hearted, I have become very rational and if something annoys me I let out how I feel.
When I had my next 3 month injection I talked to the nurse about what I was going through and she advised me not to have the flu vaccination and the covid booster because it was obvious now that my immune system has started to fall away.
I have a medical request in but I don't expect to get more than just a phone call.
What would you do?
This is just my view and what I would do, doesn't mean it's right.
Because of your immune issues I wouldn't have either jab at the moment.
There r considerable issues with side effects for some people , l would see how it goes and perhaps reconsider if you feel better in the next few weeks.
See what others say, don't forget you have some protection from your first 2 jabs
Steve
Hi Red Tea,
I am on Prostap3 so an injection every 3 calendar months, been told by my Oncology team I will be on them till I die. About 2 weeks before I`m due another jag I get even more fatigued and my mood dips a bit, it`s like setting an alarm clock!! I have had my 3rd vaccine injection and also my flu jag (at same time) but had no side effects from either. As it has been said many times before on these forums everybody is different and react in different ways.
Take care, Tom.
Hello Tom,
We are on the same drug and your description is exactly how I felt but I didn't dip a bit, I dipped down into the abyss and it is being a long slow climb back up. I will get there though.
My oncology team told me much the same with a caveat that I would be put back on biclutamide (which I hate) for the last ten weeks of my life.
I was originally given 3 to 5 years as an estimate, how long were you given?
Also I had put through a request to see a doctor instead of being dealt with on line and I got my wish, I had to travel to a different surgery but it was worth it. I was his last patient so we had a good long chat about everything.
He agreed I shouldn't have both jabs together, he agreed with the nurse that my immune system was probably quite low but he also said that having at least the flu jab would be a good starter and that once it was in my system, to then have the booster when I have space in my calendar.
He also gave me the asthma drug I wanted with an option to give me the stronger dose if I requested it, though I am not sure I am ready for the pink trees and blue humans that it caused last tiime.
I feel way more positive today.
Cheers
Red Tea
Hello Norfolk Boy,
See my reply to HarleyD for all the update but I had my flu jab last night and don't feel too bad today. I also got the asthma inhaler that I had requested so that will be having an effect.
My friend had his flu jab and was refused the booster when he came down ill with a heavy chest infection within two days. He has since had the booster and is still not right.
In your case I wouldn't have thought it was anything to do with your jabs as there is quite a gap between then and now and more likely to be one of a few normal viruses going aboul, but from your desription I would be asking my doctor to suggest something. And if all else fails play your cancer card.
Stay safe, warm and drink lots fof fluids.
Cheers
Red Tea.
Hi Steve,
I finally got in to see my doctor last night. He suggested the flu jab first because, as you say, I have some protection from the first two jabs against covid. Once this is in my system to have the covid booster. I told him that I had side effects but once I described them he said I had what most people experienced and not to worry.
All in all today I am not as down as I was yesterday but the replies on here have helped.
Cheers
Red Tea
I don't see any connection between these different events; the common thread is your hormones, which would explain the mood changes and much else.
"it was obvious now that my immune system has started to fall away"
Sorry, but that's just rubbish.
